Well at first look it seems my GS5000 from Carefree Industries on Aliexpress is a FAKE. I had ordered a black one but they sent me a red one. The name on the PCB says RS2 Ver4 and the manual says RS2/RS3. No name of Manufacturer or any warranty info on the box or Manual. The top mounting block has a different shape than on a real GS5000. The real one has a flat front on the block my fake has a rounded top. There are no markings on the "lens." There was also no CD disc in the box.

The Specs on a real GS5000 say there are 5 resolutions to record in, but this one only has 1080P and 720P. The real GS5000 says 5.0 megapixels and this one claims 8.0. There also doesn't seem to be a GPS receiver inside.

Specs say:
GPS logger: Internal
Video format: MOV
Video Code: MJPG

I can't tell if it has an Ambarella Chip inside yet. I have to look at it under my soldering scope at work tomorrow. I will give an update soon

At least this one only cost me $70 with shipping. I am looking at another DVR and may mount this one in the back of my truck for a rear camera.

PS,

I found a RS2 listed camera here:
http://www.asiastanleyshop.com/simplesh ... uct_id=146

It looks like the manufacturer may be

EKEN Electronics Co.
2b-2F Huafeng Science Park
GongHe Road, Xixiang, Baoan District
Shenzhen, China

Hi Malodave,

I am very curious on whether this is Ambarella or Novatek or other chip since I haven't heard of the RS2. Can you post a video? Wonder what the quality is like as well.

The main chip is a iCatch Technology Inc. model:

SPCA6330A-HB261
EP6H262.00
1219

iCatch Technology Inc
19-1, Innovation 1st. Road, Hsinchu Science Park, Taiwan 300
Tel: +886-3-564-1600

Technical Support

The next chip is a Samsung:
K4B161646G-BCH9
C14301

I think this is a ROM chip. (I checked and it is a DDR3 SDRAM chip)

The camera creates AVI files of 465MB for a 5 minute clip, or 5.6 GB per hour
Other cameras using H-264 compression claim 3.6GB per hour.

The mic seems to work good. I will see what I can do to post a small clip of daylight
and night time use later tonight.

Hi Malodave,

That is very interesting since it is the first time I have seen an iCatch chip in a GS1000/GS5000 model. Another member purchased a F900LHD with an iCatch chip (different processor though - Spca1628) and he was quite disappointed. Perhaps this iCatch chip has better video quality?

Here is my test video. I have both a day and night test included.
The original files look better than what youtube is hosting.

Thanks for sharing the video Malodave. The day quality is ok and night is below average but I have seen worse. It is a bit difficult reading license plates but perhaps they are visible in the original videos.

Here are some pix of my fake GS5000:

The Box, You can see they even use the real photos of the GS5000
to illustrate the box art. Compare the images to the camera I received:

There were no markings on the lens. The Main PCB was
silkscreened with RS2-Rev4.

If anyone needs the High Rez Files just contact me.

Thanks Malodave for sharing all of that.

The photos are excellent. First time I have seen a photo of the iCatch chip in the GS1000/GS5000 body. I will link to this thread from the main GS1000 page.

Minor update:

The camera will shut down if the defroster is on high for a while due to high heat issues.

Malodave

Thanks for the update Malodave. Heat issues are common for the GS5000's, so shutting down is not unexpected. Does the picture get worse as the camera heats?

GS5000 have several different solution, the best one is ambrella solution. So when you place the order, you should check the solution first.
Foxoffer provide the original ambrella solution GS5000,you can order it at: .
Also you can find a cheaper GS5000 at:

Another small update:

The RS2 Dashcam has locked up twice now. The on/off button and the reset
button have no effect to restart the cam. I had to wait for the battery to
run down for the unit to shut off, then it would restart.

I don't think it is the cold because both times it locked up at about 5:30 pm
on a mild night here in New Hampshire.

I am saving up to get a Finevu CR500-HD. At least they are a manufacturer
that will stand behind their products.

Malodave

Hi Malodave,

Thanks for the update. I'm sure it will help others avoid this camera in the future.
