The 70mai Omni is a Chinese single channel dash camera released in Jan 2023. This camera is also known as the 70mai X200. This is a very unique dash cam that has 340° motorized lens rotation, a first in any dash cam we have seen.
The Omni uses a Novatek NT96580 processor and an Omnivision OS02K10 CMOS sensor. While many dash cams stick with Sony CMOS sensors, it is good to see some different options available on the market. The Omnivision sensor is only 2MP, hence the maximum resolution of this camera is 1080p.
The 70mai Omni has built in eMMC memory instead of utilizing a MicroSD card. There are 3 options available: 32GB is the cheapest model, 64GB is mid priced and 128GB is the highest price.
Video Quality
The 70mai Omni records 1080p video at 60fps with an average bitrate of 20 Mbps. Video quality during the day is very good and night quality is average with some graininess. While not at the same level as some of the better 2K and 4K cameras, the 1080p day video is better than expected.
Note that at 60 fps, HDR recording is not available resulting in lower quality night video. We recommend sticking with 30 fps recording to take advantage of HDR recording.
Features
The 70mai Omni comes with a small 1.2″ screen, g-sensor and has built in GPS. The camera comes with WiFi and has apps for Android and iOS. Unfortunately the Omni only supports 2.4 GHz WiFi, not 5 GHz WiFi which leads to slower download speeds.
The Omni is a small, pill shaped camera at 93 x 51 x 51mm. Overall build quality is good. The camera comes with audio and screen error notifications. One negative is that the camera uses a 300mAh battery instead of a capacitor which is not ideal in hot climates.
The 70mai Omni comes with some gimmicky features as well such as MaIX the bear and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). MaiX reacts to the driver with frivolous emojis displayed on the screen. The ADAS feature is also annoying and most owners will typically turn it off.
Voice Control
The 70mai supports the following 11 voice commands:
- Shoot left – camera rotates left and records a 10-second video
- Shoot right – camera rotates right and records a 10-second video
- Shoot inside: camera rotates around and records a 10-second video
- Shoot emergency video: saves a 15 second video, 5 seconds before the command and 10 seconds after
- Shoot vlog: camera rotates slowly to the left and records a 10-second vlog
- Take photo: camera will take a photo
- Take selfie: camera rotates around and takes a photo
- Record audio: enables audio recording
- Stop audio: disables audio recording
- Enable hotspot: enables WiFi
- Disable hotspot: disables WiFi
Parking Mode, Hardwire Kit and 4G
If you would like to use the 70mai Omni for parking mode you will need to purchase a hardwiring kit from 70mai. There are 2 compatible kits available:
- 70mai UP03 Hardwire Kit – this enables parking mode only
- 70mai UP04 4G Hardwire kit – this enables parking mode and 4G cloud capabilities (requires a SIM card and data plan)
With the hardwire kit installed, the following parking mode options are available:
- Motion Detection – records 30 second video when motion detected. With 4G installed, you will receive a notice on the app
- Impact Detection – records 30 second video when impact detected. With 4G installed, you will receive a notice on the app
- Timelapse – continuous recording at 1 frame / second. Note this is not uploaded to the cloud
Beyond the 3 parking modes above, the optional 4G solution provides:
- Cloud Storage for 15 days with a max of 50 videos
- Remote video monitoring up to 30 minutes. Can also adjust settings remotely
- Parking Lot Search – determine location of vehicle in a parking lot and real-time monitoring on a map
Support
70mai support outside of China is not the greatest. However they do create firmware updates for their cameras to fix bugs and enable new capabilities which is a positive. 70mai provides a 12 month warranty, which is standard for most dash cams.
