BlackVue Elite 9

BlackVue Elite 9

The BlackVue Elite 9 is part of a new series of dash cams released by Korean manufacturer BlackVue in December 2025. The Elite Series currently has 3 models available:

  1. Elite 8 – 2K HDR front camera and 2K HDR rear camera
  2. Elite 9 – 4K HDR front camera and 2K HDR rear camera
  3. Elite 10 – 4K HDR front camera and 4K Non-HDR rear camera

The Elite Series offers video improvements over the previous BlackVue flagship, the DR970X. While BlackVue hasn’t disclosed which processor is used in the Elite 9, the front camera is using a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 CMOS and the rear camera is using a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 CMOS.

Video Quality

With the addition of HDR for the Elite 9 on both front and rear cameras, video quality has a noticeable improvement at night. The front camera records 2160p (4K) video at 30fps with an average bitrate of 60 Mbps. The front camera has very good video quality during the day and night quality is good. Currently there is no way of turning off HDR during the day.

The rear camera records 1440p (Quad HD) video at 30fps with an average bitrate of 25Mbps. The video is very good during the day and average at night. With the Elite series, BlackVue has made significant improvements on video quality compared to the previous generation. While VIOFO and VUEROID flagship cameras have arguably slightly better video quality, BlackVue is now in the same ballpark.

Features

The Elite 9 camera comes with g-sensor and has built in GPS. It does not come with a screen so you will need to use the Android or iOS Smartphone apps to interact with the camera. The Elite Series are also one of the few dash cams that support 1TB MicroSD cards.

Historically, BlackVue has had excellent parking modes with their dash cams. The Elite Series improves on this by offering an Ultra low power parking mode which lasts up to 30 days. It has buffered parking mode based on motion or impact. Alternatively you can use timelapse parking mode. You will need to hardwire the dash cam to your vehicle (optional hardwire kit required) or connect it to a battery pack for this to work.

The Elite 9 uses the familiar BlackVue cylindrical form factor which is very discreet and the size isn’t too large at 130 x 55mm. The dash cam comes with an adhesive mount and cannot swivel to record interactions at the driver or passenger windows. The build quality is very good. Another positive is that the camera comes with audio error notifications.

BlackVue Cloud with LTE

BlackVue continues to have one of the best cloud services available for dash cams today. You will need either the optional LTE Connectivity Module or a 3rd-Party Wi-Fi hotspot in your vehicle to work. The cloud solution provides:

  1. Alert Push Notifications (Immediate notification on your smartphone when an event happens, such as a bump in parking mode)
  2. Remote Live View (see your car in real time from the app)
  3. Video Backup / Auto-Upload (auto-upload event files to the cloud)
  4. Two-way Voice Communication (talk to people in the vehicle via the app)
  5. GPS Tracking (see the real time location and speed of your vehicle)
  6. Remote Video Playback (watch videos from the app)

Note that all LTE options require the purchase of a SIM card and a monthly data plan (tablet plans work well) for these features to work.

While BlackVue offers a Free Plan for their cloud services, you should check the table below to see if the free plan meets your need. BlackVue recently launched a more affordable Lite Plan as well.

While the cloud features are impressive, costs can add up quickly. That being said, if you own an expensive vehicle or want to monitor your teenage kids driving BlackVue Cloud can be a worthwhile investment.

Support

BlackVue appears to be responsive to questions and has adequate support. They also provide firmware updates which is a positive as well. BlackVue now provides a standard 2 year warranty, which is best in the industry.

Known Problems

GPS Lock

Some early owners have indicated that the Elite 9 can take an extended time to lock into the GPS signal. This could occur if using the older CM100LTE module. Firmware updates are being made to address this issue.

Should I Purchase?

If you are looking for a full featured 4K cam with top of the line ultra low power parking mode, excellent cloud features and optional LTE connectivity, the BlackVue Elite 9 is a great choice. The use of capacitor, nice design and decent Android app are strong positives as well.

The main drawback is high price and no interior camera available as some other premium dash cams in this price range come with 3-channels. See what other owners have to say about the BlackVue Elite 9 on our forum.
