Guys,

Still think my cam is too dark, even after playing with some settings as advised by you. See 4 screenshots in next post (taken within few seconds from eachother) (Cam settings 2580x1080 on superfine)
-1st one driving (sunny day with some clouds) with CPL on.
-2nc done taking the CPL of - you see my finger and half of the CPL
-3rd one just one seconds after CPL is off (real nice bright !)
-4th one 2 secons later after CPL is off..going dark again.

Is this normal? Some parts of the vid are like it is dark, and in fact it is a nice bright day, as you can see on shot nr 3. Also, with settings on max, lens is clean, does not appear to be of high quality..

Suggestions ?

Point it little bit down.
You have too much of the sky that makes the exposure compensate for it and makes overall video dark.

Check the screenshots here https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threa...review-and-comparison-against-g90.9468/page-2

I have little bit more hood showing up and they are pretty bright.

If staying at the same angle, do one of the following:
Spot may work for the brightness but sky will look very bright.

1. AUTO EXPOSURE METERING
Here you can set the measuring area for Auto Exposure; this setting will affect the video brightness and quality. CENTER is recommended if there is no special requirement.
options:
CENTER
AVERAGE
SPOT

2. EXPOSURE COMPENSATION
Here you can manually adjust the Exposure Values to improve the image brightness.
options:
-2.0
-1.7
-1.3
-1.0
-0.7
-0.3
0
+0.3
+0.7
+1.0

+1.3
+1.7
+2.0

Your images are not 2580x1080 so it is hard to judge the sharpness accurately, can you post them original size? EG use Registrator Viewer, right click and Save Current Frame.

It is attempting to keep the sky correctly exposed which is difficult since you are looking directly towards the sun, even though the image is dark some of the clouds are still over exposed so it seems reasonable to me given the conditions. I guess the last picture is more typical since you don't spend all your time driving directly toward the sun, and it is only this time of year when the sun is low enough to cause difficulty anyway. If you are not using CENTER for the exposure mode then try doing so as it should then expose mainly for the road surface (not actually the centre of the image).

The CPL hasn't removed the dashboard reflection in the first image. In my car that center reflection would vanish completely. If you put your hand there so that you can see a clear reflection on the little screen and rotate the filter does your hand not disappear at some point?

Here is the 4 pics taken from Registratorview (save current screen) on full screen. Actually added on where you see me take the CPL of, so you see both part of screen.
Remember, these pics are taken from a video, driving at 80 KM/h

I will test tomorrow and point the camera one or two clicks down, but means probably 1/3rd is showing the hood.
Camera is hanging same height as the mirror inside (actually behind it)

, just the windshield has a sporty angle (BMW F31 series), not like in a SUV or so.

You have more than half covered by the bright sky and the exposure is compensated for the sky's brightness.
It should be 60:40 (60 below the horizon, 40 above the horizon). Looks like you have the opposite, 60% sky and 40% below the horizon).
There is no point taking video of sky and funny cloud shapes.

The more you get of the hood/car, the better in case of a collision.

Thanks - will try tomorrow with these settings as you mention. Still learning ;-)

So how are the videos?

Much better now. took more hood in the video. But more important...exp compensation was set to -0,7 instead of +0,7 !!! My errror.........

Now vids are much more bright, and on cloudy days good visible. Also night vids are goods.

So apart from regular hickups with the GPS, the vids itself are good enough. So happy
