512GW video issue

I've just purchased a 512GW dashcam and have run a few test videos at 1440P.

When I play back the videos, they are very much stop/start. the videos seem to pause momentarily after roughly 20 secs of recording.

Any ideas why?
 
Try the low res, does it still choke?

What processor/graphics card do you have? 1440p with all the metadata is a very processor intensive file.
 
I don't know what sd card you have, I had similar problems using a SanDisk Ultra until I found on Google that they seem to be problematic with dash cams. I bought a Transcend High Endurance card and problem was solved.

Definitely not a PC issue. Software is installed on a brand new Microsoft Surface Pro with I5 processor and 8Gb ram.

Lower res seems to cure the problem. I have a Microsoft Surface Pro with latest I5 processor and 8Gb ram.

Thanks for that. Can't say for sure that this is not the issue. I'm using a 64Gb SanDisk Ultra. I wasn't aware that the dash cam had issues with specific card manufacturers. If this is the case, I would have expected a recommended card would have been pushed by Nextbase. 64Gb cards are not cheap. Not everyone has the cash to splash out on a variety of different manufacturer's cards.

I'll give that a go. I was loading the files directly from the camera via the provided USB cable. Having reduced the resolution, the file loads and plays just fine. I'll try setting the resolution back to 1440P and take some more film then load the card directly to my laptop and see if that makes a difference.

I seen a comment on this forum somewhere but can't remember where so I investigated further on google. The problem seems to be with a number of dashcams, not just Next Base.

Would anyone from NextBase like to comment on to this?

If there are issues with SanDisk cards, then this should be explained to potential customers. After all, SanDisk is one of the top manufacturers of memory cards and are not cheap.

I'd like to think that the development team would be able to fix this and provide updated firmware.

I have a class 10 U3 64Gb card in my Nextbase 612GW, which is 4K, so twice the resolution of the 512 and have had no problems...

you'll see this problem when trying to play directly via the camera like that, the data is a lot to deal with and you'll get buffering issues due to USB throughput not being able to keep up, dash cameras don't make for great card readers
 
I also wonder about some laptops video throughput with them not having a dedicated video card like desktops.
 
Problem solved.

I've reformatted the SD card a couple of times and had to perform a hard reset of the dash cam as it completely froze on me.

The camera is now performing as expected at 1440P.
