Hi, i have a Viofo A119 the original version from back in 2017. Recently it stopped working, nothing i did or was suggested to do worked, so i opened the cover and i found burn marks and a blown green capacitor (i think that is what it is).

Is it worth fixing? If so can this forum help me do it myself, or is there someone here that fixes them?

Thanks Dave πŸ™‚

Yes, it is worth fixing if you can do it yourself. It is very easy to desolder the bad one and replace it with a new one. Of course, you will need to know how to solder and find a replacement cap.

Thanks, It looks simple enough but i am very new at soldering. But i just got more bad news. I removed the board and i think the camera is fried, there are burn marks all over the board. Oh well it lasted 8 years. Dang.... I wonder if its worth parting out...

Whats a good deal on a replacment? New or Refurbished.

8 years....yeah, might be time to step up a bit in dashcam technology. πŸ™‚ Sorry to hear the board is a bit 'toasty'; in that case, it is probably better not bother with a repair, as there could be other issues.

What are your needs, and what price range are you looking in? Do you want front cam only, front and rear, front and interior, or front, rear, and interior? Do you need the high image quality that a Starvis 2 CMOS can deliver (4K), or would a basic dashcam that records at 2K and does a perfectly good job work? Do you want parking mode that records when the car is parked, or are you satisfied with drive-only videos?

Just front view is fine, the old camera did everything i wanted it to do. So not really looking for fancy, just basic. πŸ™‚ I found a refurbished A119 for $65, but im not 100% sold on that one. Wont make a decision till the 1st of feb πŸ™‚ Drive only is fine too, dont need parking mode πŸ™‚

Hi, just an update here. Viofo customer service made me a sweet deal on another dashcam so i ordered a A119 V3. They did not have to do anything because my dashcam was so old. They were good to me and i will return the favor to them. πŸ™‚

I guess i will use my broken dashcam to practice my soldering on tiny stuff. πŸ™‚ The screen is still good if anyone needs a screen. πŸ™‚

Viofo has excellent customer service for sure. I was going to suggest the 119 series or the VS1 as a start. Glad you were able to get one at a good price. πŸ™‚

Thank you so much, sorry for the late likes... i forgot.. πŸ™‚
