Adding internal memory?

I recently had to open up and replace my 0801's battery and I noticed that there is a empty internal memory slot.
If I put in a 8GB card and flash the correct "GPS-Internal card" firmware will it work?

Unfortunately I could not make it work. I put in a 8GB card inside the slot and flashed the GPS/internal card firmware. The camera says card is absent when I try switching from outer card to inner card. I moved the 8GB card to the outer slot and the camera read it fine so my inner slot must be broken.
