On a whim. I bought the Pro with telephoto only to find out....it's limitations.

I'll be pulling seats and panels just to run it to the back, etc so preferably aiming to do this install in1 shot.
I might ad-hoc the wiring if a new rear camera is confirmed.

I've read bits and pieces of this on the feedback on the telephoto lens.
Does anyone know if a new rear view mirror is confirmeded

I don’t think we are expecting a new rearview mirror in the near future, but a new high quality 1K rear view camera is almost certain, and should be available fairly soon.

There is no perfect dash cam, every manufacturer has it own set of issues. Viofo is among the better, particularly so when it comes to customer service. Waiting for the next best dash cam is like waiting for the next best iPhone or Galaxy, or iPad, or whatever. Enjoy what you have and as long as it works well, use it for at least two years before upgrading.

The A329 Pro, the Belle of the Ball at the moment, will be found to have its own set of problems. The A329 Pro seems to me to be more of a interim, test vehicle to see what the engineers can do and what the market wants. The next Viofo 4K dash cam, or the one after it will likely be a really nice, well thought out dash cam.

The A229 Pro works well, has a very good image quality with a good feature set. Enjoy it.

I went with the 229 Pro over the 329 due to 3 channel.

It was only when I had it in my possession in my hands + looking at the layout + planning the wire runs and what path to take, etc did it make me digg further to find out I could not run 229Pro+ Tele+ Rear Cam due to how the Tele connects.

Yes, that is true about losing the rear camera. Do you have the telephoto lens already and do you intend to use parking mode?

I have the A229 Pro plus IR interior on the front windshield. On the rear I am using an A129 Pro Duo that was replaced by the A229 Pro. A few days ago I did order the telephoto to put on the front windscreen. Since I use the A129 Pro Duo on the rear, I have the USB-C port available on the A229 Pro.

That was my -alternate- plan but didn't really want the bulk of a complete unit....another unit on the rear instead of just a camera.
Granted, this telephoto is something that not even -alot- of others are offering so gotta pick offerings...

Think I'll just run with the front and rear and return the tele.

Have you tried the tele? What do you think of it?

You could try asking your supplier if you could swap the unused 2K rear for the 1K rear when it is available, since that is what they should really have supplied if you bought A229 and tele at the same time!

Have not tried at all, just short of ad-hoc powered up holding camera in hand + viewing via the app to decide on location to mound which path/paths to take for the wiring loom all the way back.

Mostly curious, is there a reason you have decided to not use the telephoto camera? It is a very simple install on the front windscreen, much simpler than the back camera will be. I have ordered the telephoto and will give it a spin, I may end of not caring for the telephoto, time will tell.

Mainly for my intended use case, I just want some level of recording on front and back.....in which the current setup is .....due to how the inputs work relative to the 229. I have considered briefly just putting a Garmin Mini on the rear and just have tele/front 229 It's not a labor or cost issue....just wanted something straightforward in use, function and aesthetics....

I'm not crazed about the screen on the A229 nor due to shape....can't really put it behind review. Blocks sensors....
Function vs fashion....one of the better/best current Video Quality on the market, and I really thought the Tele+ Dual Combo was a winning combo....until it came to light on what inputs are supported and how.

OK, fine I will finally join this thread. lol
Based on my testing of the A229 Pro Telephoto it will get 99% of all license plates night, or day between 0-40 Meters.
During the daytime everything past 40 Meters is blurry.
I brought it up with Viofo, and they said the Telephoto lens is calibrated from 20-40 Meters.
Which makes perfect sense because that is the optimal time / distance to capture a moving plate based on my experience.
But, I want it to be "in focus" from 0 to infinity because I'm spoiled by my Sony Action Cam (GoPro). lol

That I can't really use it as how I originally intended with the rear camera that comes with it. The immediate fix is just to order the 3.5 x 5 meter cable and use the interior camera as the rear. This was a impulse buy without looking at the telephoto and realized the input cable on it needs to connected to the rear input on the A229

A329 Pro? What model is this?
What problems do you predict for it?

As far as I know, all Viofo models had some problems,
but over time they were resolved.

The A229 Pro's cabin camera has a SONY STARVIS IMX307 sensor.
I think the video quality will be good.

I did a Quick Look at the A329....looks like the rear camera uses a totally different cable than USB C or if I was to run the interior camera as rear, 3.5

Looks like there is no way to just wire this right the1st time around and will need to just bite the bullet and wire it for front and rear and revisit it.
It's due to how the cables are run - I'm not tucking inside the weatherstrip and just wiring to what is convenient. Removing XYZ so I can drop the front headliner down,Going on one side for power and the other due to wiring access - down the A pillar, door sills, pulling the rear seat to open up the side panels to get it to D pillar, etc.

That is true, the image on my IR is very good, no complaints at all when using as an inside, passenger facing camera. It has a good day time and night time image quality. Now, I have not used it as a rear camera pointing out of the window but I suspect the day image will be good but the night image will be poor. I doubt the IR lamps on the camera are enough to give a good outside image for night driving.

There is no need to turn on the IR illumination when using the interior camera as a rear camera.
IR illumination is disabled in the A229 Pro menu. ;)

The new 1K rear camera for the A229 Pro/Plus will use the same cable as the interior camera, so if you could install the interior camera and then upgrade to the new Starvis 2 rear camera later, when available.

The A329 is indeed USB-C, and not compatible with A229 remote cameras.
