Anyone use an Insta360 camera for social media content creation?

Currently going down the rabbit hole of reading/watching reviews for action camera usage for social media usage. Main things I focus on is food/cooking, traveling to Disney World a few times a year and posting/documenting the trip, and some side nerdy things like video gaming, anime, and board gaming.

Using my phone now which I have no problem with, but the idea of using an action camera like something from Insta360 has intrigued me. Not married to the Insta360 brand, I just happen to see a lot of ads and chatter about the company lately, but wouldn't mind looking at different brands like GoPro, DJI, or other suggestions.

In terms of action, probably the most motion this thing would see would be walking around and going on rides at Disney World or other amusement parks, other times it may be setup next to a Blackstone for some grilling action, or set on a tabletop during a board game session. All of the above would be some short clips, under a minute, with the end results being multiple short clips or stitched together clips.

End result could be that sticking with my phone is the best bet, but wanted to lessen the battery drain and usage on that thing if possible. Definitely would appreciate any input or experience anyone wanted to share.

If you drive to these locations you could use a Vantrue E360 Ace dashcam.

It works similar to the Insta 360

Currently AUS$620 for the Ace configuration.

Vantrue E360 Handheld With a Hidden Feature

I have also used the Insta 360 4K with a tripod, and I found it to be excellent. It captures everything, allowing for any view to be extracted using their video editing software.

Hey thanks for the reply, what's ironic is, I actually have the Vantrue E360 in one of my cars and I posted a review of it on these forums. Really great product and I'm a fan of Vantrue's stuff.

But for the uses I listed, I was thinking less 360 camera and more of a wide view/action camera or even regular camera. Based off of my time with the Vantrue E360, I don't think a 360 camera would be necessary.

Appreciate your input!

You miss out on a lot with the Vantrue E360, which Lateral has failed to point out.

Vantrue doesn't include tools in their apps when it comes to cool editing effects, colour grading etc which other brands like Insta360, DJI Osmo and GoPro use. It's really a dashcam that happens to have a selfie stick with battery tacked on.

Yep very good point, and that's something I've noticed in a lot of reviews of these other action cams. Definitely looking to utilize the editing options in the apps, so I think getting a camera made as an action cam first will be important.

Pretty much nailed it there, much better to get an action camera first. You'll enjoy it a hell of a lot more , and you don't have to get the latest model either in say the insta360 line or DJI etc, even last generations model will still come in at a decent price. All the best and hopefully you find what you're after

Yep you're absolutely right on that point. Might as well get the previous gen/model and save some $$. Thanks for your input, really appreciate it!

@IronSerif
Just to clarify. I wasn’t making a full product comparison, just sharing a practical option that could work in certain situations.

It wasn’t meant as a definitive best-in-class recommendation, just a suggestion for those who might find it useful.

I like the 360 approach i have to admit, the shoot now frame later, and not least if there are some activity in the mix you do not have to worry about walking outside frame.
The new Insta 360 X4 look damn nice, but i can not justify picking one up for the mere minutes i would use it annually, also i have the Ace pro conventional camera which are plenty fine for my needs, which rarely have myself in front of the camera.
