I've just upgraded from a Nextbase 412 to a 422 model but the hardwire kit, which I retained from the old camera, won't work with the 422 as the mini USB plug won't fit into the 422's windscreen mount. I'll have to buy a new hardwire kit but wondered if the cheap ones available on EBay and Amazon are worth it and are they even safe (I'm thinking about the fire hazard experienced with cheap mobile phone chargers here).

Cheap hardwire kits should be avoided like the plague. The issue is generally not so much one of safety or fire hazard. The issue is that they often feature very poor voltage regulation and thus have a tendency to fry dash cams.

Invest in a high quality hardwire kit or don't use one at all.
