Hi everyone,

My Mobius delivery is imminent, with the Mobius i have ordered a 3 Mtr ext cable and 5v car charger adapter all from the Mobius developer on ebay

I would like to know what are the best settings for the Mobius in these 2 scenarios

1. Use a loop record car dash cam with power on at engine start
2. After car power off remain on battery with motion cap until battery flat

I opted to not replace the battery with Super caps as i wanted motion detect until flat, in the Uk temps rarely get excessive, if they do for a short period i will be mindful and take measures to reduce damage

Infact i wanted to go a step further and NOT have motion cap in the evenings, only during the day but without a third profile i dont think thats possible, not real issue tbh

It would really great if someone could please list the best settings so that i can obtain reliable results after initial delivery and setup

I've never tried motion detect. From what I've read it's not particularly trustworthy as implemented in the Mobius. There's no pre-buffering, so it cannot capture an incident, only the aftermath. Also, battery consumption under motion detect isn't much better than in loop-recording mode, so the battery will be flat after around 2 hours.

When parked unattended, I suggest using a power bank to power Mobius in loop-recording mode. A 32GB card will record around 4 hours 30 minutes at standard data rate, before overwriting the oldest clips.

A car parked in direct sunlight on a UK summer day is plenty hot enough to fry a LiPo. I suggest removing the camera from the car in such conditions. I don't need to, as I use capacitors, which are more resilient.

Your vehicle's 12v outlet stay on live, delayed off or off after the engine is switched off?

Its not a deal breaker, it would have been nice to have had motion detect after power off until flat but heyho

TBH if it isnt possible to have mtion detect after power off then super caps would be the way forward, for now i dont have them so will just be carefull russ

so my best settings using loop only would be ( and this could be helpfull to other new users )
Sync date/time (yes)
Lens (C)
Rec ind (ON)
USB data port charging (enable)
File sys Fat 32 ( as i will be using a Sandisk C10 32Gb card )
Power on default (VM1)
Power on delay (Delay)
Power on auto rec (External Only)
Power off Disconnect (10 secs)
Motion detect (Off)
Video or sound file type (MOV)
audio rec (On)
Video time stamp (On)
Rotate video ( User discetion )
Loop recording (On)
Video data rate (Standard)
Video Clip length (3 Mins)
WDR ( user discretion )
FOV (Wide)
Video res (1920x1080)
Video frame rate (30fps)

Out of interest will the time/date stamp loose its sync if the unit goes flat, my journeys are typically less than an hour to work and obviously same back so the unit will rarely reach full charge from the car power and even if fully charged with the larger batteries, charge time is only 2 hours ish

Just running the battery flat should be no problem, it will power off but still have enough power to maintain time settings for quite a while afterwards

@Signhere
My power is controlled via a 4 port car cig lighter extension block with remote cable, the remote switch is easily at hand to control, and the hub is hidden away

So the answer is OFF at any point as the Cig lighter is powered always, thats why i use a controllable switched hub

I also run a ( Crap whistler & great STI Driver but not from the hub ) i only run the whistler coz i like the stupid sounds it makes lol

@jokiin
Thats good news :)

"They" say continuous deep discharging the battery will shorten its capacity ( therefore, its useful life).

If this "power bank" below can charge and discharge simultaneously, how about connecting it between the Mobius and the power switch? You will likely be able to run your Mobius 24/7 then if you choose.

US $24.00 shipped ( http://www.gearbest.com/mobile-power-bank/pp_144271.html )

Is it really a good idea to power a unit the size of a Mobius 24/7 ? I wouldn't be comfortable doing that signhere

My personal preference would be to let the unit discharge and then recharge, preferably back to maximum but in my case max charge might not be always possible, this would simulate the original design usage of the unit where by R/c guys would use the camera until flat on there machines, take them home and recharge the device, to me this would be the healthiest thing for the battery

Maybe super caps coupled with a backup battery would be more desirable but as I wont initially have this at hand I will be using the charge discharge cycle

Thanks Russ, there are a few differences between my initial thoughts on settings and Horaces but overall there close enough

I know its been mentioned on the forum before with iso but it would be good IF the software had an In built car dash cam config ready to roll, for me and others willing to tinker its fine to play and test but for the majority tinkering is not something people want to do
