I know @Nigel has ran a few VIOFOs although not sure how many others here have ran different models & can draw a fair comparison vs just using the 1 model & commenting how good (or not) that model is.
My car died so I'm on the lookout for another which is the perfect time really to combine it with a proper 2CH setup vs using 2 different cams as I was doing in my previous car.
I had a VIOFO A119v3 up front which I was mostly happy with. It was a huge upgrade from the Mio MiVue 600 series cam I had in that the Mio made things extremely orange-y even on good clear days. I'm sure there's some technical term for this but everything just looked so orange to me & plate detection was so blurred. The VIOFO on the other hand, when playing daytime clips back the clips at least looked how they looked through your own eyes! Clear.
Even with that said, unless the cam is like a £2.99 eBay special then I imagine for the most part that any cam will show that car that hit you, it's colour, what make it is & you can make out the model. It's the finer things I'm looking at here - such as that car that came over the brow of that hill at speed, clipped you & sped off - are you able to go frame by frame on playback & make out its reg plate?
I mention VIOFO as I'm quite happy with their front cam & the pricing for it (think it was £95 at the time), but basically looking at a good 2CH reasonably priced setup.
