For those of you like me that have problems deciding where to put your base and/or do a lot of experimenting with more than one base, you may find yourself going through a lot of those double sided squares that come with the 0806. I actually managed to use all mine up since once I put it on, I can't remove the base and reuse the double sided square. Also, when I take off a base, it leave a bunch of residue I have to take off with alcohol (or some other cleanser) and with scraping.

I found a better more flexible way. For about $4 (US) per package I bought a package of "3M Command" medium picture hanging strips - they come with 4 pairs of strips. The beauty of these is that each of the pair has a self-stick adhesive. I use two side by side strip pairs per base. When the pair is together, you have the equivalent of the 0806 square. But once you press on the back strip of the pair, the front strip of the pair can be inserted and removed because the two strips in the middle are attached via locking velcro. In addition, if the strip against the windshield ever needs removing, it is much easier and leaves no residue. Now the strips are way too long (through you can leave them unless it prevents you from positioning the base where you want) - so I cut them to be the dimensions of the base.

well there you go, Dashmellow to the rescue, might have to get some of these myself, get tired of changing mounts on test units all the time, even if not suitable for long term use for what I need they could be ideal

I still prefer 3M dual-lock tape for it's strength and rock solid, vibration free grip but the Command strips seem quite viable too. They might even be better for temporary installations.

yeah those work well also, I do a lot of temp installs for a few days at a time when testing, particularly when doing side by side tests, for anything longer than that then I prefer to install correctly anyway

I've been using Command strips for about six or eight months ever since painting my living room. They've worked quiet well up until a relatively light painting fell off the wall several weeks ago. Now, I'm a bit circumspect about these things but they should be plenty strong enough to hold a dash cam.

not something I would use longer term, the dual lock is better for anything longer term that still needs to be removable
