Confused about memory cards

Hi. I've read through a few threads and still think I'm a little confused. Since the maximum bitrate seems to be 38mb/s, doesn't that mean that I would need to look for a memory card with write speeds of 40mb/sec plus to be safe?

I've seen quite a few people recommend the Samsung Evo Plus, but their write speed seems to be 20mb/sec

Or am I getting confused about megabytes per second and megabits per second?

Thanks!

FYI - What’s the difference?
  • Megabyte = MB
  • Megabit = Mb
By extension, speeds would be measured as such:
  • Megabytes Per Second = MBps
  • Megabits Per Second = Mbp
  • Mbps means megabits per second. Mb is used for download and upload speed.
  • MBps stands for megabytes per second. MB is used for file size
What’s in a letter? (8 bits = 1 Byte)

Thanks guys. I must be ill or had been having a moment! So it looks like a card that will handle writing 5 megabytes per second and upwards will be fine. 🙂

Thanks for the replies and breaking it down for me 🙂

No problem. Actually it was same confusing for me as well at some stage in the past.
Any questions are welcome here on DCT.

use a good quality class 10 card is fine

Thanks. The Samsung evo plus looks good for £17.99 (64gb)

Hehe I guess we all have to learn somewhere 🙂 cheers

10 megabytes per second is OK, 5 would probably struggle when opening and closing new files.

As you are in the UK, I got my last one here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121756976891

You bought their last one: out of stock. 😉

enjoy,
Mtz

Cheers, that's the one I went for but off mymemory.co.uk Think I got it for £17.09 with a 5% off code and free delivery.

They did seem to sell quite a lot lol. I'm a bit dubious about memory cards off ebay though as remember buying an SD card back in 2006 for my PSP. It was sold as genuine, however definitely wasn't as it wouldn't boot quite a few backups (don't ask).

anything that is real class 10 and not fake is going to be what you need

Thanks I think I've picked one that should be fine. Going to test it out tomorrow on a short ride so will post a video up.

Edit:- Still waiting for the memory card from mymemory.co.uk sadly. I wish I'd checked other review sites rather than trustpilot as others have had problems with non-receipt or very slow delivery. :\
