Just got my first ever dashcam, it's the Mobius from ebay.
I am attempting to install this in my car, but I am not familiar with electricity basics.
I also got the cigarette lighter from the same seller that converts 12v to 5v/1A for with a usb port. However, I want to connect this cam to a power source near the garage opener area (on the roof near windshield). From my understanding, those power sources are most likely 12v. Can I hardwire the cam to a 12v power source? Or I need a convert to drop the voltage down to 5v?
Please don't flame for this simple question, thank you!

There are few ways to use Mobius outside the car:

1. to buy or use your mobile phone charger wall charger which ( most modern models ) have usb socket and connect via Mobius usb / power cable.

2.buy voltage converter - adaptor from home wall socket to 12v car cigarette lighter socket ( 5usd ) and use mobius usb car charger to power up.

3. Easiest in your case is to buy 12v to 5v converter with mini usb plug. They are fairly cheap, about 5usd.

This is what you need:
