Can I tap into power wire on cigar lighter with scotch locks to power dash cam , cigar lighter only powers up with ignition sorry should have said hi to everyone I'm only new member and its he first forum it ever signed up to

Tapping in with a correctly-sized "Scotchlock" should work but those things aren't highly reliable, and using the wrong size can damage wires. Most folks use an "Add-a-Fuse" type fuse-tap at the car fusebox.

You didn't mention which cam you have, but most use 5V and a mini-USB cable which comes from a power supply (PS) that is either a box on the power wire or is built into a ciggie lighter plug. With these, clipping off a plug or adapter and running a car's 12V directly to the cam will kill the cam. Check your cam's specs if you're not sure. A few cams do use a 12V input directly.

Hi thanks for reply Cam came with mini usb and plugs directly into cigar lighter its not branded as I ordered on eBay
