Doesn't Record

I recently bought a DVR-207 that I can't get to record on to the SD card. It shows recording on the screen when turned on however when I plug the SD card into a card reader and computer it only shows about 5 or 6 seconds of the recording. I tried reformatting the card but still unable to record anything but a few seconds even if I leave the cam on for a lengthy period. Am I doing something wrong or did a get a dud??

Bought a new SD card but same problem exists... only a few seconds of video gets recorded.

What settings are you using? Are you trying with all the recommended settings from the FAQ? If you are, then you probably got a dud and you're better off asking for a replacement if the seller offers such an option.

Where did you buy your 207 from?
What size and brand SD cards have you tried? Maybe run a check to see if they are damaged or fake.
Do you happen to have motion detection set to on?
Do you have auto off set?
is your car lead coming loose?
