Dreaded 0806

I have been using a SanDisk Ultra 32GB class 10 card for over a year with no problems. Figured I should just chime in my personal experience on the matter.

Good to know not to switch cards.

Unfortunately, SanDisk Ultra 32GB class 10 cards have a reputation for going belly up when you least expect it and are not recommended for dash cam use. SanDisk now specifically excludes dash cam use in their warranty policy on this card. I've owned three of them, having purchased them before I became aware of these issues. So far one failed suddenly and the others are still working but I no longer use them for mission critical dash cam purposes.

I'm still using the card it came with with not to many problems. My pro plus hasn't arrived yet.
I changed it to 5 minute loops and had had a few blue screens and only one lot of beeping with the ridiculously small red writing which is impossible to read while driving. I just turns it off and on again and it continued OK.
All in all, the super cheap card it came with seems to working pretty good. Wished I didn't spend another 100 NZ dollars on a new card.
I looked at the tracking of the pro plus card the other day and it still hasn't left the US.
Its ridiculous that no one in NZ doesn't sell them.

the only red warning I’m aware of is the warning of low battery,

from their manual

might this be the issue?

No, this was not it.
When I had it on continuous recording it would record for just over one hour then beep and say in ridiculously small red writing Something about card being full. It wasn't really full, just at the end of the 4 MB maximum recording the useless thing does. I would turn it off with a series of pushing buttons, then turn it on again and away it would go for another hour and eight minutes. This would continue until card was really full, ... About 13 hours all up ...
Then it say in red again that I needed to format the card. It says this after the card is full on 5 minute loop recordings also.
But anyway, this time it was something different. I don't know what it said, but I do know it was not flat battery.

sorry I don't know what it could be, I'm sure someone with better knowledge than me can help out

Just to recap, many problems are caused by SD cards, I know this from experience I purchased a number from a well known auction site, many, many cards sold are fake.
I suggested in an earlier post that you test your card for errors etc, this then will confirm if you have a "good" card or not, you can download a program called H2testw that will report your card status.
Once you have confirmed that your card is ok then the issue may well be with your settings or firmware.

To quote Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's, Sherlock Holmes "when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?"

I still propose the theory that higher capacity cards are slower.
I've done a few tests using CrystalDiskMark. I won't post full results, as they depend on the type of formatting etc. but in summary:

For 512K and 4K writes, my 32GB Kingston Class 10 U1 (reliable in 0806) is around twice as fast as my 64GB equivalent (not perfectly reliable.)

My Samsung Pro Plus 64GB is over 5 times as fast as either of the Kingstons for 512K writes, and twice as fast for 4K writes. It is also twice as fast in the full blown sequential test.

The Pro Plus are very expensive - but you are getting more for paying more. So far it has been 100% reliable in the 0806 - but still only a few days' use.

Note that I'm using a fairly old computer, the SD card reader probably goes through USB2. The speed differences may be even greater with the right hardware.

I haven't tested the card yet but the cam seems to working fine now.
Still waiting for my pro plus to arrive from the States. It sure is taking its time.
