I have bought an F750 + rear camera and have been 'bench testing' it prior to fitting. During this time it connected to GPS only once. Should I not worry about this on the assumption that it wouldn't get a signal in my house or garage, and I should only expect it to connect when in the car and out driving?

Gps doesn't connect on mine because of some special coating on my windshield. It connects only when I take the unit out of the car for a minute or so. Have you tried it inside the car while outside the garage?

GPS is line of sight. It requires an unobstructed view to the sky (it's getting its signal from a satellite) so having it in your house or garage will definitely interfere with the signal. Unless you have the coating on your windshield like dashcamito it should work once it's in your car.

The same applies to satellite radios. I lose the signal in tunnels, under bridges (if traffic is slow it cuts out for a moment or two), and in parking garages.

Do you know what the coating is? Is it part of the laminate used to make the safety glass? Just curious....

ETA: I think I found the answer. Somebody posted on another forum that some manufacturers put metal oxide layers in the windows to reflect heat and reduce cabin temperatures. The metal oxide blocks GPS.

Some manufacturers leave a small area of the windshield untreated so GPS, radar detectors, and EZ-Pass type devices will work - they mentioned it's usually in the bottom center portion of the windshield and sometimes on the left side.

I decided to strap the unit to the passenger visor so that I could road test it, and the GPS connected. Then I checked the SD card with the PC app and Google maps came up so looks like it works. The trial was also useful as I realised that I really needed to mount the camera in the centre of the windscreen behind the rear view mirror rather than at the top to the right or left as I had planned.

I installed the F750 about a third of the way down the windscreen and GPS connection was good right up until I cabled in the rear camera. Now I have to be very careful with the positioning of the cable to avoid it interfering with the GPS connection. I would be interested to learn how other people have arranged their rear camera cable on F750 systems which have a reliable GPS connection.

I installed the Right angle extension cable for the rear cam to make it neater and it also made the GPS not engage.
when i pulled it off and plugged back in the original cable without the extension. the gps connected straight away.

Interesting. However currently I do have a right angle extension cable attached to the front camera and GPS is working well. In my case it is the position of the cable relative to the camera that affects the GPS, irrespective of if an extension cable is used. For me the cable must not be too close to the top and/or front of the unit.
