Hi,
I wanted to share with you a problem I had because a bad Real Time Clock battery that has seen better days..
the date and time started resetting after a couple of hours without turning on the camera, which meant that new videos got overwritten immediately because detected as old ones..
I replaced the RTC battery and everything is good now, it is just a few $$ and a hour of work, it saved me a new dashcam..

Very nice, saved it with a couple of bucks replacement clock battery.

Nice work indeed. Love how they used a connector/plug for the super-cap. I recently re-soldered the super-cap back onto my Viofo A229 Pro, wishing they had use a plug like the DDPAI. I did re-flow and cleaned up the one lead that looks a little icky.

Yes, but locating the lithium battery at the hottest location in the dashcam, and then heating it using the heatsink was not a good design if they wanted a long service life! That is why you buy a Viofo rather than a DDPAI, Viofo dashcams are designed to last.

The Z40 uses a SigmaStar 8629Q / G processor and a Sony IMX335, other than the microSDXC controller there is not a high chance of components causing heating issues.

As to the lithium RTC battery you mentioned, that battery location is essentially no different that what it is on the VIOFO A229 Pro. I have no idea if VIOFO is better made than DDPAI, however, from the video I would say the board is made as well as the VIOFO.

I can say that this DDPAI replaced the Viofo A119 that lasted 4 years and started shutting off right after start up. so longevity wise... it's actually the same with half the price. At least I could fix the ddpai, I couldn't say the same about the VIOFO.
It's also important to say that over here at the summer, outside temperatures rise up to 45+- Celsius, so the interior can heat up to 70-80 I guess....
thanks for the comments.
