Hardwire cable too short?

I've just received my mini 0906 and my plan was to get it hardwired. However I fear that the hardwire kit will be too short for my car (BMW 5 series).

The fuse box is located in the trunk / boot. When I did a test of running the cable, the voltage switch part of it only reaches my back seat. Although I'm not an electrical expert, logically it would make sense for the voltage switch to be in the trunk / boot so I can easily adjust it and secondly to avoid the risk of any children sitting in the back playing with the switch.

I measured the hardwire kit and the black part of the cable (excluding the coloured wires) comes up to approximately 2.4m. I still need at least another 1m to get the cable into my trunk / boot.

Is it possible to get a longer hard wire kit from anywhere? If not, would I need to buy another hard wire and potentially cut and solder the black cable parts together to get the desired length? Any bright ideas are welcome 🤔

As I'll be getting a professional to do the installation, is it fine for him to use standard wiring to extend the red, yellow and black cables rather than me buying an extra hardwire kit for the spare cable?

I would have preferred to have the voltage switch in the boot but if it's best to avoid extending the USB part, I'll hope my chosen installer will be able to place the switch discretely inside the car.

If anyone has had to place the voltage switch part of the hardwire kit inside their car, pictures of your setup would be appreciated.

Don't extend the USB cable, you'll end up with some voltage loss which can cause problems

Sorry for being unclear. My reply was referring to the coloured cables. I'll be leaving the USB part of the cable untouched, as you recommended, to avoid any voltage loss.

Great. Thanks for the super helpful and quick responses jokiin!
