I wanted to share a solution to what feels like some core GTM and onboarding issues. I first wrote this out and cleaned it up.
Why I Share This : I did not have a great experiance and was close to shipping this back
First — everyone at BlackVue should go through the full experience themselves. Open the box, set it up, and assume your paycheck depends on it. That perspective matters.
Second — Initial Access to Hardware
Also — if I log into the app with one username/password, that should be my authentication across all systems. This should be seamless.
Next — System Check
Now that the device is stable and connected, guide the user through power and installation considerations.
This would take the negative sentiment after a purchase out of the minds of the consumer and decrease your return rates.

Second — Initial Access to Hardware
- Use Bluetooth as the primary handshake for first-time setup. Pay a little more engineering and add it.
- Once Bluetooth connects, prompt the user to accept and pair the device
- Immediately associate the device to the user’s account at a system level
Also — if I log into the app with one username/password, that should be my authentication across all systems. This should be seamless.
Next — System Check
- Automatically run a system check after pairing
- Poll for firmware updates by default (not optional)
- Update the device before moving forward
- The device is linked to an account
- The device is fully updated
- Scan and display available networks (SSID)
- Allow user to select and enter password
- Confirm connection and signal strength
- If signal is strong enough, clearly indicate readiness to proceed
- Show a clear success state: device is ready to install/use
Now that the device is stable and connected, guide the user through power and installation considerations.
