BUT ! you will need to be running 64 bit windows, and also 54 bit linux for the latest versions. ( there are also older 32 bit versions for linux if you happen to run that )

It seem to be a strait forward editor, and without trying it out it do look as it well and truly 1 up the pathetic windows movie maker.

Seems a little involved ( room for errors ) just in the install alone .
Does not appear to be stand alone ...
Apparently still very buggy ... ( some functions invoke the blue screen of death )
Windows movie maker is no longer available for Download form MS ..
And from where you can get it , it looks to be bundled with CrapWare !

I haven't looked at video editors for a long time .... Might be time to take another look ..
Thing about Movie maker , it worked within its limits , and worked reliably . ( I was never fond of it )

Instability always happens when you first port something to a different os. And as is typical of big Linux apps, you usually need to also install the framework they use in Linux (typically gtk - gimp tool kit). This is no different than windows apps - they need their own frameworks too, such as visual c++ redistributable, ms .net framework, Java, etc. Most installers will simply prompt you to install whatever prerequisites they need (vc++, gtk, jre, etc) as part of the install so it's pretty seamless for most folks.

I will have to try out kdenlive on Windows. Right now it's the only reason I dual boot my PC. Having just windows on the machine would simplify things quite a bit.

Hmmm , I run different flavors of linux on Virtual Box

VB is a compromise , and some linux'es run well and others don't .
But its a quick and easy way to find flavors of Linux one might like , and there is little restriction on the number of linux flavors you can have ..
One can created Virtual HDD's , or run the Linux on a virtual CD/DVD drive .. ( What ever floats your boat - Security Bla bla bla ! )

Really hard to hack or infect a Virtual OS ....

I like VB for all those reasons , + I can run old windows , sometimes you really need XP ( Sad but true )
The only windows I have failed with is 95 , cant get past the Floppy Drive ...
