The manual states pressing the button "will lock current footage to avoid being overwritten by loop recording". This might suggest that if you press the button just after a new file has been started (every 1 minute by default), only that file would be locked thus you would only have a few (or even zero) seconds of past video.
I did an experiment and am happy to report that this is not the case. The previous file is also locked in this scenario when the current file is short. In my experiment I had the current 9 second file and the previous full minute video locked, from a single button press.
