micro USB to DC Adapter for power?

I dont think so, at least it is my understanding the systems using a barrel connector is 12 V so such a adapter will at least need to have a step down in it so get the USB 5 V

So i will have to say it is a maybe, the adapter of course also have to be strong enough, over the years we have seen people using creative power sources run into all kinds of problems, so this could be a build in USB outlet in the car, to various multi port USB chargers that might claim so and so Amps possible but not really delivering.

Still it cam be done in the old days i used a multi port USB adapter to power systems, CUZ back then with only single camera systems i might be running 5 dashcams just on the windscreen.


At least be weary that if you are going creative, and run into strange system performance, you are probably underpowered and should try the supplied power source to verify that.

I found a 12V/24V to USB-C 5V hardwire converter

I am guessing this would work ?
 
Maybe.
It is a very long cable on the 5V side all that have to be jammed in somewhere.

There are also adapters to tap into your overhead light source to get USB power from there, quite a few use those, but i have no experience with them myself, things like that would also negate parking guard, which i still use along with 4G connectivity so parking guard or not on i can always remote in, just if off it do take a little while to wake up the system of course.

BY chance i fell over install of one such adapter, though here some 3pin output, you can of course get USB too A / C whatever i would assume.

I did burn myself back in the day powering a rear single camera with a long USB wire from the front of my little JAP 5 door hatchback, i had noticed it would not start some times.
And wouldn’t you know the day i got rear ended it did not record of course, the price for being a stupid lazy old man.

Fortunately no footage was needed the phone junkie took blame just fine and dident go anywhere as his radiator on his Toyota 4X4 was toast.
But still would have been nice to have the girl behind me get shunted into my car on video.

#2 time i got rear ended was while parked, and while at this time i was using parking guard ( low bitrate always record ) it was with a timer set to 1 hour, and my car was hit 2.5 hours after i parked it.
Fortunately little old lady saw it all and took down plate CUZ skum while leaving note she came back a little later and removed it.
