Hi Guys,

I purchased a Mini 0806 from gearbest after seeing a review on youtube (Techmoan). The camera arrived in good time and worked, although I could not link the camera to the PC to review video clips, rather had to use the SD card slot in my laptop. All good, until the GPS went the following week and now after 2 weeks it fails to turn on.

I have approached gearbest for a solution and the 3 options I have been presented with are "pretty poor" at best.

I wish I had the foresight to have joined this forum before purchasing as I would not have bothered with the 0806.

Has anyone managed to get a satisfactory out come from Gearbest or the manufacturer?

Brad

The forum should be doing more to warn people of this time after time un cost effective Chinese postal scam that leave people with a useless camera ....

perhaps if you start a thread about it when people google and it ops up they will more understand whats going on...

or maybe gearbest in this case should warn people in big red letters on his website you have little incentive to return a new broken camera.. probably a Chinese buyers return ???

Wish you had been on this forum too earlier. I have been sharing my experience here about Gearbest since December. Check the one out about my debrief. Turns out, humorously, I thought there was a problem with both the 0805 and 0806 I purchased from them and it actually was their technical ineptness. The problem was about GPS lock/dash cam position and its sensitivity to 64 GB SDXC cards. Once I positioned it correctly on the windshield and used the higher end Samsung Pro, the problems all went away (mostly).

In the meantime, Gearbest shipped from Staten Island, NYC leaving the impression there were an American distributor, but when it came time to return it, they insisted it go back to China and even then, they would offer only a store/site credit and I could not get a refund on my cc. So I called up Visa and disputed the charges and ended up winning (though that does not guarantee that anyone else will have the same result).

Not sure what to suggest other than see if you can make do like I did, since sending it back uses up a large chunk of your purchase and if you are like me, the last thing you want to do is yet get another thing from them.

it's always wise to go with a reputable seller/company and perhaps a local business, even if you have to pay a little extra. a simple search will yield many negative reviews, even on their facebook page.

it seems you are against the odds when you buy from gearbest. 🙁

Hi Guys,

Its been a while, but I have some good news. (The short version)

Negotiated a 50usd refund with gear best to be paid into my original payment account (Paypal)
Gearbest added 50usd credit on their site.
I raised a claim with Paypal over the phone and explained the whole story, issue with camera, refund via gearbest but not reciving the refund as agreed.
They looked into the mater and liaised with gearbest who then offered me 40usd refund via paypal, which I declined.
Paypal them said they would pay a full refund once i had sent back the camera and provided a tracking number.
I called Paypal and explained 1 - cost of postage would eat into my refund, 2 - camera contains a lithium battery, which Royal Mail will refuse to ship.
The Paypal Agent (Nice girl) was aware of this issue and varified this on the RM website and immediately offered a full refund. Paypal would liaise with Gearbest to seek a resolution. Paypal seem to have withheld payment or are in a position to get the money back.

Now awaiting for the full refund to appear in my paypal account, apparantly it can take 5 days.

Lessons learnt :
Mini 0806 not a great camera, will not buy another and would not recommend to a friend
Do not buy from Gearbest
Hats off to Paypal for finding me a satisfactory resolution

Hope this helps guys, if you are reasonable and explain your situation, it appears you may get your money back.

Glad you got your refund. I had a similar experience with the 0806 but with a local seller.

I had to send it back 3 times (at my cost) because it kept dying. It's just poorly designed and built.

First one ended with a dead GPS, and the second one ended with a melted mount plus a de-laminated lens. I eventually got a refund after much grief.

I too learnt my lesson when buying from a Chines supplier, if all goes well then you’ve saved some money, but its only when you find yourself needing to return or replace the item that you find they know you’re not going to be sending a faulty item back to them for a refund as postage will be as much if not more then the item cost in the first place,

where I can, I buy from local suppliers , even on eBay I look for local (UK based) suppliers, even though its going to cost a few quid more. there are times I have no choice as an item I’m after is only supplied from China and know I’m taking a chance, or the item is so cheap that if it goes belly up its not that much money in the first place

a few weeks ago I purchased a quadcopter from a UK based supplier I paid just under £120, I saw many of this model on eBay for around £60 - £70. no it wasn’t a pro one, just one of those for amateurs like me to learn with, when it arrived it was faulty

the image on the hand set screen was what looked like polarised

when I went to open the files on my laptop they wouldn’t open even with VLC that opens everything under the sun

having VLC amend the file, this is what I got a distorted image on screen, something like 16:6 , you can see the file date as 2001, I couldn’t get in to the menu to alter the settings

the following day I emailed these images to the supplier and without any ifs or buts he offered a full refund and went halves on P&P, OK I’m out of pocked by a few quid in P&P, now had I got it from China and the same thing had happen I would of been £60 - £70 out of pocked,

one further example I’m making my own motorised slider rail for my time laps photographer, I have everything made up and it should be running right dandy right now, well it would if only the YSD-998 12v DC power pack for the motor worked, yes I got it from eBay China, the first was DOA, and for a further £7 they posted me another one that lasted 4 weeks then that too went belly up email after email and they end up saying it an error on my part as to why its not working but am welcome to post it back for a refund when they receive it (which I doubt they’ll receive) if anyone knows if these YSD-998 power packs can be repaired please let me know as I have two dead ones and don’t want to buy another only for it to last a few weeks

@flip9 I would love to recommend the 0806, I love the form factor, but I’ve found one of its weakness is its very flimsy mount, where the wind-screen mount attaches to the body of the DVR, just too weak to be reliable and on mine I got a rocking motion while driving, even on smooth roads,

I can’t recommend the Blackvue DR500GR due to very bad image capture and its reliability, I was getting from it, but the design of it I thought was top notch, sturdy and well put together

Dont buy another one, its a waste of money.

I've got one and i've used it to power a lens dew heater. I stopped using it because the capacity is about half of what it claims to be (or the charging system is crap).

I now use a 12v battery pack i made.

My thoughts exactly, not to buy another YSD-998 for sure,

I was thinking of looking at some 12v DC bike batteries and see how they are, for sure they’ll power the slider motor for hour’s/days on end with one charge, just concerned if I can get a small enough one thats not too heavy,

I had similar problems with Gearbest and have ended up with an 0805 with a ****ed up lens sitting on my shelf for a year. I bought from them thinking that it's reputable, which maybe it is, but there is nothing you can do if the unit fails. With the reliability (lack thereof) of these cams, I will always buy from a domestic source from now on with good customer services and free returns including shipping if the product is defective. Took me a $125 or so to learn the lesson.

The ratio is 25%. I sell 20 and warranty 5. But ones which sold is good. After 4 months, noone complaint 🙂 Consider you have a bad luck 😀
