Hi all
I have 2 Mobius cameras in my car - one is a B and one is a C
The C disrupts the DAB signal in my car (doesn't matter whether it's in the back of the front) - the camera with the B lens is fine. It's definitely not the power cable, as I can swap the cameras around and the problem stays with the cam - i.e. as soon as it powers up the DAB signal is lost.
Does anyone have any ideas about how I might sort this please?
Thanks in advance

I guess the interference must be coming from the lens module itself, given you've noted different results between the B and C model. You could try wrapping the lens module in aluminium foil but clearly you won't be able to get a complete faraday cage (unless you like quite dark video footage...!)

I think you're right - sadly Mobius support was no help at all (their guy asked me what DAB was) after blaming it on my power supply. Sadly took them out and went for a pair Nextbase 402G cams instead

Do you power the new cams with the same power source? If not, I wonder if you tried running the Mobius on battery and removing the power supply to confirm it is the cam? Not just unplugging the converter, but disconnecting it from the car completely?

I had exactly the same problem with my first cam (original model) and it was the 12v to 5v USB power supply I was using. I switched to a Veetop adapter and now have no problems with interference. In fact, since then I have added a rear v3 Mobius with c lens much closer to my DAB aerial and installed a c lens in my original cam with no problems.

I did notice the newer v3 cam didn’t seem to have the aluminium tape at the heatsink (just a larger heat pad) so maybe adding some inside the case or even copper slug tape would help... in addition to MrCurry’s suggestion of wrapping the lens.

Thanks for the ideas Alan. The interference followed one of the cameras, regardless of where it was plugged in (front or back) and the other camera didn't cause any interference, regardless of where it was plugged in, so had to be the camera I think.

The Nextbase cameras are plugged into the same power sources, and there's no interference at all. It's a shame, the Mobius cameras were small and the resolution was good. Pretty happy with the 402G so far though, so not a great loss.

Is the G1W a clone of the Nextbase 420G?
The G1W I think is basically a cheaper knockoff version of the older DOD LS300W - the Nextbase 402G is basically the same as the LS430W and basically just has built in GPS added to the LS330W.

The LS330W had a GPS adaptor that you could plug in.

I am having this same issue, my möbius completely cancels all DAB signals. It does this with my portapower adaptor and my veetop, it also does it simply running only from battery!

My other non-möbius (Panorama) camera causes no issue what so ever

I've had trouble with my rear mobius taking out DAB too and am just about ready to give up on it now.

When I installed it first, it knocked out the DAB even when just running on its own battery. So I bought the shielded case and assumed all would be well. When I swapped cases, the DAB was ok when running on battery, but as soon as you connected the USB cable, of it went. This happens even if the other end of the cable want connected to any thing! So it's not a power supply issue either.

I assumed then that the mobius is kicking some rf frequency noise out down the cable. So I've now fitted a Lindy Chromo USB cable (with proper shielding) and some ferrite cores that are designed to filter out frequencies in the 150 to 300Mhz range (ie DAB frequencies).

Guess what... Still kills the DAB signal as soon as the cable is attached.

I can't really move the camera further from the DAB aerial, which is in the rear windscreen, as all other spots have a rubbish field off view.

Any bright ideas?

I guess i'll just have to choose between DAB and a rear camera...

Si.

This is what I fear, I don't think the möbius will ever be acceptable to use in my current car which is a shame. My only option is to change it and to be safe I think going with a 12v supplied camera, such as the Panorama, is the best bet overall so no noise is generated by a nasty DC to Dc converter and fed down a long bit of cable. Still always a chance as the möbius proves by generating noise from its internal conversion

The lens on the Mobius leaves a "hole" in the case shielding as does the exposed heatsink, and that is also something of an antenna too, so you've gone about as far as it's practical to go with the Mobius. Other cams may work better for you. Look for those which use a different processor and CMOS which will hopefully operate on less troublesome frequencies. Perhaps you can borrow one from a fellow enthusiast near you while sharing lunch or a pint somewhere, the few minutes testing that would take might save you more headaches. Wish I had access to the RF spectrum analyzer it takes to check these things; I sure don't have the several thousand $$$ one costs.

Good luck with this and if you find a solution please share it with us!

Phil

I might try installing an after market DAB aerial in a different location... That might allow me to get the best position on the rear window... More cost!
