Mounting rear camera outside

I have a sprinter high top cargo van and wonder if the rear camera can be mounted on the outside. Anyone has experience with this setup?

Our cameras are not waterproof, so this may be one concern you need to take into consideration.

I had a suggestion about a waterproof camera in the past years.
I got the answer that it was being worked on and that it might be in the future.
Maybe an alternative camera can be produced for a new model.
Actually viofo mt1 cameras for motorcycle are waterproof. maybe with a cable revision, it should not be difficult to use in existing cameras.
