I am super pumped to have this now, I always wanted one when I was younger and finally took the plunge on a highly recommended one.

i am still new to these devices though so anyone with experience with them can throw in their input.

also, I don't condone reckless driving, this is more my really expensive reminder to slow down when a cop is near by. i typically don't speed much relative to majority of other drivers.

I wonder when cop cars here get the abillety to mesure the speed of oncomming cars on the fly, but as it is now they can only do mesurments with handheld radar of laser guns, and then offcourse ther photo cars, and offcourse drive behind you in a unmarked car and videotape you.

There have just been some news about many mesurments of the photo cars have to be ditched due to the pictures of the driver beeing too bad.
Allso the police have to deduct a little to account for the little inaccuracy of the mesuring equipment, due to this my friend got a speeding ticket of 1000 DKkr last year for going 1 km/h above the speed limit.

Congrats, you just got yourself the longest range radar detector available on the market today, notwithstanding $5000 systems that install in your bumper. This is my hobby so I have a few recommendations for you to get maximum performance from it.

First of all, I highly recommend changing some settings on it in order to unlock the full potential of the detector. What I'm going to recommend is that you turn RDR off, and apply expert segmentation settings to disable sections of the Ka band spectrum that police do not use. Although RDR on does prevent Cobras from alerting on your Redline, it also chops about half the range off of it as well. Disabling RDR is an instant range boost for Ka band.

To apply the band segmentation settings, go into the menu and turn KaSW OFF, which will then allow you to individually select 10 different segments of the Ka band to enable or disable. In the United States, police radar is found on 3 different segments: 2, 5, and 8. All the rest can be turned off. Turning off the other segments also gets you an additional range boost on Ka band. Thus, the final setting would be KaSW off, seg 1 off, seg 2 on, seg 3 off, seg 4 off, seg 5 on, seg 6 off, seg 7 off, seg 8 on, seg 9 off, and seg 10 off.

In some areas, the police run some guns that appear in other segments, most notably seg 6. However, these guns only appear in this segment because they are out of tune and have not been calibrated, which is something that could be won in court rather easily.
In some states (most notably Ohio), there are Traffic Sensors installed on the highways every mile or so to sense the average speed of traffic (they don't give out tickets). These can be an annoying nuisance, because they will set off K band on your detector. If your state has these, or if you suffer from a huge number of luxury cars with Blind Spot Monitor systems, you can turn TSR ON to help filter them out. This applies a delay to K band to prevent spurious signals from alerting you.

You can check out other information about your area by going to the Geographical Survey here: https://www.rdforum.org/wiki/index.php?title=RDF_Geographical_Survey and searching for your state and county. Keep in mind that if Laser is heavily in use in your area, a laser detector will not help because laser gets your speed before you can react to the alert. The only defense there is to drive under the cop's speed threshold or spend more money on a laser jamming system.

Enjoy!

What @rjk is trying to say is that by turning "RDR off" and "segmenting bands 2,5,8" you will make it more reactive to even slightest bursts of Ka band radars.

I drove/drive with many different radar detectors in all of my cars. It can become an addictive hobby (just like dashcams, lol). Just make sure to drive careful when there is no traffic ahead of you. I almost got busted with "instant on" K band from a rolling Sheriff but I was following simple rule not go over 5mph if there are no cars ahead.

Also, almost forgot to mention Waze (free app) and Escort Live (paid subscription). Waze can be a nice compliment to your radar detector as users mark locations of stationary speed traps, red light cameras, photo cars (same as speed trap), accidents and road hazards. Waze is my favorite for this. Escort Live will require you to purchase a cord ($99-120) for iOS or Android then make you pay each year for subscription, besides red light cameras, speed traps, it will allow you to use phone GPS to remember false alert locations that you have to program manually. Lots of radar detector enthusiasts run both either on same iOS or android device or both phones (I am just not that crazy yet). Of the two apps I would recommend to start with Waze as it's free.

thanks for the information guys. @rjk i have seen some info on the redline xr, which I know is just a regular redline with custom settings; are those pretty much the same settings you mentioned? I saw a video on how to set it to those settings.

@Johny i have looked into escort live a little bit, I ignorantly did not realize you needed the special cord for it though. does waze let you save false alerts too?

Waze doesn't do that, it's also owned by Google. Redline XR is just a regular Redline with segmented bands 2,5,8 and "RDR OFF". If you decide to get new V1 with V1c Bluetooth module then there is an app for Android called YaV1 by Franky from the previously mentioned forum. It's free. It will allow you to set gps false alerts.

Redline is a beast. I know rjk from rdforum but it's the go to site for wealth of information on radar and more. Thank you for not purchasing junk detectors like Cobra 😛

i almost did! haha but I research everything on the internet before I buy anything, so I saw how cobra was not recommended by anyone.

lol crisis averted! Ya you'll love the sensitivity! You can dissect the topic of radar so much it'll make you dizzy...I don't even know half of it but the guys at rdforum.org know a lot 🙂
