Hi I’m new to this forum but after some help please.
I’ve recently brought a dash cam of eBay and all worked fine. I didn’t like lead untidy lead going to the cigarette lighter so I cut it off and hard wired it to the ignition switched live but now the camera comes on for 10 seconds and then goes off.
Have I done something wrong?

I connected the red wire to the switched live and the white wire to the earth.

Yeah not really enough info.
What's the camera model?

Does it use 12Volts or 5 Volts?

Most dashcams today are 5 volt power, these most often have a USB C plug for the power in the camera.
The 12 to 5 Volt transformer often reside in the 12 V plug, so if you cut that off, and are sending 12 volts into a 5 volt camera, well you might well have cooked it.

You should have gotten a female 12 V plug, and wired that into a fuse, and then plugged into that under the dash, but you will have to tape the 2 together CUZ otherwise they probably wiggle apart under there.
