Newbie: Best Settings Please

Hi all,

I am absolutely new to action cam. But after a bit of research, I went and bought a Gitup Git2.

I am using it mainly as a dashcam, but also as video cam when I go traveling doing vlog etc.

Could you lovely people please suggest the best settings for:
1. dashcam day to day driving
2. general vlog video cam.

For dashcam use you want loop recording turned on and autostart turned on and the metering mode set to dashcam. You can leave these on for normal use too, you will soon learn to live with them.

You should also look at using the gyro stabilisation, it is not necessary for dashcam use but doesn't do much harm and depending on the car the narrower field of view when using the gyro may be good.

For the metering modes, which is best depends on what you are using it for, generally the dashcam setting can be used for everything but for a landscape where you want to capture the clouds you may want to switch to average and also maybe use the EV setting.

The rest can be left at default, but there is plenty to play with on a Git2 😀

I really should mentioned it clearer ( I was rushing...LOL): I meant settings for the resolution, format (W, 4:3) and frame rate.

Those are really personal preference.

There is little point in using 4:3 for a dashcam unless you want to use a lot of your card space on the sky, your car bonnet and dashboard! For other video 4:3 can be useful, especially for the stars in the night sky or clouds during daylight, but most people have a 16:9 monitor/TV and 4:3 is not a good fit...

For use as an action camera, 60 fps is normally preferred and that means using 1080 resolution. For a dashcam it is better to have longer record times and use 30fps so that there is less chance of events you want being overwritten, then the higher the resolution the more chance of a number plate being readable, but the faster the memory card will loop so the best choice will depend on your driving and memory card size.

You also have the bitrate option which can use more or less card space in return for more or less video quality, the default is a reasonable compromise but if you want great quality then turn it up. I wouldn't turn it down for dashcam use since you will loose a lot of quality at higher speeds.

For dashcam use, you can customise the menu button as a file lock button so that you can protect events from being overwritten by the loop recording.

--- --- I have set mine to the highest resolution at 30fps for dashcam usage, so that's good too.

that's a great sign. it means the menus are laid out properly and items are named intuitively so people can figure it out on their own without the need for a complicated manual. sign of a good developer and testing process. 🙂

Yes, the menu is pretty simple, though still a learning curve at first.
I must say I was very confused with all the attachments and brackets and screws etc that came with it, not knowing what's what. I still am.....lol

yeah that will be the case with any action camera. they can't really tell you what you can do with them all because it would be easier to say what you CANNOT do with them. there's just so many different ways that various mounts and brackets and stuff can be combined... and god help you if you go to amazon/ebay/etc and search for "gopro mount". you think you have a lot of options now? 😱😀

I bought mine with extra accessories..... Even more confusing when I saw all the different straps ....lol
