I have seen posts here mentioning the sharper image of the A119 at 1440 vs the A119S at 1080 and vice versa.
I only have the A119s, so I cannot visually compare. My instinct is that because of a more than a double linear field of view, and near 1 1/4 the arc field of view being shown at 160 deg vs 135 deg, the image only looks sharper when viewing the full image. If one were to crop the 1440 image to the same area seen by the 1080, the displayed pixel count would be about the same or near the 1920x1080.
I personally find the 135 degree view plenty adequate, if not preferable.
I have multiple prosumer digital cameras varying from 8 mega pixels to 36. I can tell you pixel count is not everything. In a dash cam, color accuracy, etc may not be important, but other things such as dynamic range are.
If I need correcting, feel free. If I am totally correct (I just did some quick calculations) I hope I have helped shed some clarity here.
The above reasons are why I chose the "S" version.
