Possible to charge from head unit?

I got my dod ls430 today. I plugged it into the head unit and it came up with 'download mode' or 'usb mode' or whatever. Is it possible to set it to record instead of being in this mode? Would be so much more convenient than having to hook it up to the cigarette charger..

output of the headunit is quite often not enough for the camera, could cause problems anyway

The headunit supplies 500mA.

So I'm guessing there's no way to take the camera out of mass storage mode..

have a look at the supplied charger, I think you'll find it's at least double that
