Power Cord Extension for Cigarette Lighter Receptacle

My car has a hidden cigarette lighter receptacle in the center console, so I want to run the power to that, but the included cord is not long enough. So I was looking to extend the cord (from the USB end since that plug is smaller). Do you think this would work?

I like the description and size of the plugs better on this one, but I need more than 4 feet so the plug is not visible around my windshield:

I also know there is a way to hook directly to the car power with the hardwire kit... but I'm not good with electrical stuff. How difficult is that?
 
Looks good, although the plug seems almost as thick as the 0806 base so might be a tight fit against the glass?

If so you can always add another short cheap extension on the end!
 
I didn't even think about the thickness. But good idea if it is too thick.
 
Here is a quick update. I tested the new cable (from usbfirewire) and it works perfectly. But I haven't mounted it yet because the tape I ordered has not arrived yet. BTW, here is the tape I got (hopefully it will last): https://www.amazon.com/gp/B000HQIX2O
 
I finished my install. Well, it could use some touch ups to be prettier, but it came out pretty good and works well. Wire is almost hidden.
