Power On - Auto record?

in the software it gives the options as

' Off... button on... external only .... and both'



so which out of these 4 would i choose and what is the difference?

i just want it to start up when i start my car up

external only in answer to your question. However on "both" you have the option to be sat in the car with the ignition off, and by pressing the button you could record something.
