HI ALL, DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY DOWNSIDES IF I LEAVE MY 0801 PERMANENTLY PLUGGED INTO MY CIGARETTE LIGHTER, WHICH UNFORTUNATELY IS ALWAYS ON, AND USE THE POWER ON/OFF BUTTON EACH TIME I SET OFF OR LEAVE MY CAR. I'M AWARE THAT I WOULD HAVE TO SWITCH OFF THE AUTO START AND MOTION DETECTOR. ANY ADVICE APPRECIATED. TA!
 
battery will fail at some point, why not just pull the plug out

alternatively you could have your lighter socket wired to switched power rather than permanent
 
I hard wired mine into the auto dimming rear view mirror. I could have taken the supply from the interior light except I wasn't sure how the 'dimming' process would effect the camera. I used a 12v to 5v converter .
The camera only powers up when I start the car (ignition on).

I went the other route and wired to the interior light panel. When I unlock the car the camera powers up and runs for 10-15 minutes after I lock the car. I'd assumed the internal battery would help it past the light dimming sequence. So far (two weeks) it's worked well.

can you explain why a lion battery will fail because it is kept powered up in a fully charged state ?

it's not just kept in a charged state, it's maintaining the charge that's the issue, even more so when the temps are high as they can be when parked outside in summer in the heat of the day
