Shadow1s> another newcomer Sony EXMOR (IMX322) based DVR
Look & Feel:
Technically as it known it is a china cloned Sony IMX322 sensor + Ambarella A7 chipset.
Also I need to mention that instead of Li-Ion battery Super Capacitor is used. So the durability is much more better. Capacitors works good in any conditions and never dies in winter (temperature below zero).
Ambarella A7 is good for customizing so it might be important for DVR-enthusiasts.
I very like mounting like Shadow's. The best formfactor for stealth in-car installation. Dashcam can be masked as a standart car equipment and completely hidden outside the vehicle.
Day:
DR is not so good as it was in my prev test - Anytek A3. The same sensor, but no details in a highlights and no details in blacks. In the same time Transcend DP220 without any problems shows much more information in such contrast scenes.
Wide angle is another problem. As per number plates on the snapshot - details are missing.
Night:
Again disappointing. It was promised to show incredible night vision. But in fact in just the same as it was for Anytek A3. And no any close to Panorama2 based on the original Sony IMX122.
I've tried to test Shadow1s agains my home IPCAM based on original IMX122 with working night mode:
Compare with IPCAM
Yes. As you can see night mode in shadow1s is just a fake. There is no any night performance in a grayscale. It just de-saturation and nothing mode.
File information
General
Format : MPEG-4
Format profile : JVT
Codec ID : avc1 (avc1/isom)
Overall bit rate mode : Constant
Overall bit rate : 16.2 Mbps
AMBA :
Video
Bit rate : 16.0 Mbps
Width : 1 920 pixels
Height : 1 080 pixels
Display aspect ratio : 16:9
Frame rate : 29.970 (30000/1001) fps
Color space : YUV
Final conclusion
Day quality is not so good as prev reviewed Anytek A3. View angle is too wide and that is the issue - detalization always poor with wide lenses.
Strange thing is the Dynamic range. It is surprisingly low and I can not explain why. Anytek's DR was definitely better in high contrast scenes.
The worse thing - the Night quality. It was promised some superb technologies with the grayscale night mode. But in fact it is just a fake.
GS mode just does not work at all and there is no any difference with the colored picture of any revival.
And overal night picture is still not true Sony night-vision. Both Anytek A3 and Shadow1s are far far away from real IMX122/IMX322 capabilities.
