So I just ordered a mini 0806 and I'm excited for it to arrive tomorrow. I wanted to ask what people are using for settings. Also if I stick the base on and I decide I want to move it later (this is my first dash cam) how easy is it to remove the sticker and base? I'm almost thinking maybe I should use some velcro or something at first to be sure I like the location. I want to hide it behind the rear view mirror but I'm a little worried about trying to access it, etc.

You can use dental floss as a saw to get it off. Then clean the area.

I use the standard setting but I have date/time stamped on the video. I had 12 hour clock but I changed it back to 24 hours.

PS
Try not to rotate it too much to avoid the internal wires/solder connections problems. There are planty of post about this on the forum.

Welcome 🙂

The default settings are good, in fact they are exactly what I normally use.

You should be able to position it with the cover still on the sticky tape using the screen to check the view, then put a mark on the glass so that you don't loose the position, then take the cover off and stick it as marked.

If you do get it wrong then use a hairdryer on low (so not to crack the glass) to warm the glue and it should pull off again reasonably easily within the first few days with the sticky pad reusable as long as you clean the glass well before sticking it on.

Thanks for the welcome and replies! I'll go with the default settings then. I have to wait a few days for the hardwire kit but I can use the accessory port (costs extra these days to get a cigarette lighter and I don't smoke so it's called an accessory port I guess). I like the tip about the hair drier and or dental floss! I just want to try it in a few places before I commit. I'm really excited! I had a guy try to pull out in front of me the other day and ended up in someones yard with his bumper 4" from my door, he must have thought he did because he covered his face and took off like a bat out of hell! To close of a call and I couldn't see his plate it happened so fast. I did a lot of reading and for the size/cost/etc the mini 0806 seams like a good option. I'm comfortable with a soldering iron and I'm thinking about opening up the case right away and moving that wire before it becomes an issue. Is there any warranty sticker or indicator I've opened it up? Sorry I'm just excited to get my first dash cam!

The pads used to stick the mount to the windscreen provide an extremely strong bond so follow the recommendations made by Nigel because you will only get one chance to stick it on the windscreen. In the event you do want to move it then either try what Nigel suggested with the hairdryer to warm it then gently ease it off the windscreen, or as Boston's Mike suggested and I would personally recommend, use cheap dental floss to saw through the sticky pad (which will destroy the pad) between the mount and the windscreen, then clean the glass afterwards. For re-sticking the mount to the windscreen I purchased a roll of black two sided foam tape off Amazon and have to say it sticks extremely well at a cost of £2.49 for a 25mm wide x 4 metre roll, link is https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/B009IQCET2

I think most of the problem ones have been sold by now so it's unlikely you will need the soldering iron. Just rotate it slowly the first time and if you feel some resistance then it is worth investigating, if it rotates smoothly all the way around then I wouldn't bother.

I just wanted to post a quick follow up. I received my 0806 two days ago and I am thrilled. The common issues others have had were not present in my camera at all, at least in two days of use. I have rotated the camera through the range of adjustment several times and felt no resistance and gps continues to work. The focus is sharp too! I only have 1 65 GB SD card in at the moment so I cannot comment on any issues with switching cards etc. Anyways I just wanted to put something positive out there about the camera. I'm happy! My cam didn't come with a CPL and I can see that would be a nice addition. I have already ordered one. While that may sound like a negative, it was clearly not present in the amazon listing so that's on me. So I would say to anyone ordering one just be sure that is included or at least know it's a nice addition.

good to know you got a good one, where did you buy from, it might help others to know if they have later version stock

Sure thing, mine is a Black Box branded purchased on Amazon from the seller rock store. I don't know anything about how this seller would support the device had I experienced an issue. I mainly just went with this seller as it was offered via Amazon prime so quick and free shipping. I also felt had there been an issue Amazon customer support would be more likely to help me resolve any issue. Price was $129.95 plus tax.
