SJCam USB-C external microphone - any "alternate" way to test if it's faulty...?

I got an SJCam 10 Dual and the external microphone for it, from SJCam's official store; according to the description on the site, the camera works with it.

However... mine doesn't. I plug it in, enable the external microphone option... restart with the option on, with the microphone plugged in, without... replug, re-turn the option on, off...
Nothing works, the videos recorded with the microphone is completely mute.

Is there any way to verify if it's the camera's fault or the microphone's? Would a device (a cell phone?) detect the SJCam microphone to test it, or is it something that will (should!) only work with SJCam's products?
I've tried plugging it into a phone's USB-C port and testing various microphone applications, but there was no sound, and no confirmation that anything was connected.
