Hey all,

Recently swapped my 16gb card that came with my blackvue for a Kingston 64GB microSDXC Class 10, I was pretty sure it was going to meet all the spec and be perfectly fine, after using it for just over 2 weeks now I've noticed when I try and view small clips (1Minute) via the WiFi on my iPhone 4S the playback is slow to buffer usually it was instant with the blackvue card..

However it isn't on this one now.. is it because the card is not fast enough? Even if I copy the files to my phone it can take a while to download.. I'm pretty sure waiting longer then 5minutes to copy a 1minute clip is to long.. I haven't tried swapping the cards back to the 16gb one yet..

I've had no issues with the recording of files so it is doing it's job correctly.. I'm just getting slow playback

I've looked at the spec and it says Class 10 10mb/sec Min read speed..

I've also ordered a Samsung EVO 64GB so I can try that card out as well

the memory card is not to blame
the speed WiFi of this does not depend

Hi Mr. Gomo,

We have find through testing that Kingston cards seemed to be problematic with BlackVue cameras especially the DR650GW model, as well as other brands. The Samsung product may be more compatible, however we recommend purchasing genuine Pittasoft cards locally in Australia, as the cost will usually be less as you only need to buy the card once and it is then guaranteed through us - no need to buy extra cards costing more.

A possibility; If you have changed the video quality setting then the WiFi speeds may appear slower because the size of each video has potentially doubled in size from a bitrate of 5mb/s which is default to the 10mb/s highest video quality option. So instead of it now transferring a 40mb video it is transferring an 80mb video.

If the problem persists and it appears not to be working please shoot us a line or contact your local supplier where you purchase the camera from.

Thank you.

Hi Blackvue! Thank you for the reply, I think you are correct in terms of quality of my video I have selected "Highest" I will change it to "High" and see if it helps.. However I have already ordered a Samsung 64gb MicroSD Card "Samsung 64GB EVO UHS-I Micro SDHC Memory Card Grade 1 Class 10 48MB/s"for further testing, the costs for each card are cheaper then the genuine cards hence why I picked them, But yes you are correct in saying if I went with the Genuine recommended cards I wouldn't be in this situation :)

I will post back my results and see if it improves, however with lower quality I'm guessing the footage won't be as clear hmm

Just gave it a shot with setting the quality to "High" but I still have issues with playback over WiFi it's taking way to long to playback the file 2 - 3 minutes and when it does only does 10 - 15secs of playback then gets stuck buffering again! I'm going to point my finger at the kingston card as the issue because if I put a 32gb Samsung I have no issues same with the 16Gb original card..

Fair note for future buyers of the kingston "Avoid" :)

Hi Mr.Gomo,

Yes we definitely think Kingston will cause some problems, we also have tested the Samsung EVO and find it is more reliable than Sandisk ultra but still prone to a higher chance of issues due to the difference in controllers used by these manufacturers. The specialised cards made for the BlackVue cameras which are tested in-house for compatibility before production are the best way to go.

As stated the speed of transfer will decrease/increasing depending on the bitrate you select, essentially a video on 5mb/s instead of 10mb/s will make the WiFi speed appear twice as fast even though it is at the same speed.

If you have any further issues or need any more advice please feel free to contact us at sales@blackvue.com.au

Thanks for the reply :)

I have tried out the 16gb Card that came with the unit for the past 2 days and can confirm that it has no issues streaming any content to my iPhone 4S at all.. no lag or long waits for videos to play..

The moment I put in the Kingston Card it takes a while to play videos and as mentioned above has issues playing the entire clip before needing to buffer again :)

I will see how the Samsung card goes as previously I had used a 32gb Samsung card without any issues what so ever... You are probably correct in saying if you want trouble free issues stick with the manufactures card as it's already been tested etc

Hi BlackVue

I have just tried the 64gb Samsung card I received the other day and can confirm it has just as hard time as the kingston when it comes to playing back content on my phone (Buffering issues)

I thought okay then I'll try the original 16gb Backvue.. put it in drove around for abit, then got my phone out and tried to stream some content, (Exact same issue) plays for 4 - 5 seconds then sits on buffering for 20 seconds then plays again.. I Honestly think my blackvue is defective, this is my second unit I've been given as the original had issues with the internal battery keeping time (Sync)

To confirm I will place the 64gb Samsung in my wife's blackvue (Same Model) and report back my findings if the footage plays perfectly fine on her camera..

All in all all cards I have used have no issue recording the content to the actual cards.. it's just when I use the app to play back the footage from the blackvue I'm seeing these issues..

it must be so

Thought I would post an update here,

I have been in contact with Blackvue who are keen to RMA my original dashcam! I wanted to also post a video here showing exactly what is going on.

I have two Backvue 650 unit's one in my Wife's car and the other in mine, Moments ago I tried to copy a video file (64gb Kingston Card) that originally was slow on my dashcam however instant on my wifes! as seen in the video.. I tried a 64gb Samsung card that also was slow on my dashcam however perfectly fast on my wife's dashcam

I tried many cards including the original all that had issues with playback and slow copy speeds, so I'm going to assume the wifi module on my unit is having issues..

Hi Guys,

Thought I would post an update here, Yesterday I received my replacement unit, was very easy to organize a replacement thanks to Caleb @BlackVue Australia

I put in my 64gb Evo Samsung card and straight away started to download footage from the card onto my phone, transfer speed is faster then what I was experincing before and my videos also playback without any buffering issues

I'm confident the unit I had was defective because even if I was using the original 16gb card my performance was still slow and resulted in constant buffering issues..

All in all a very positive outcome and now I can download and stream videos from my camera as intended :)

/me does happy dance

Thanks again Blackvue Australia

Thanks for your feedback, glad we could help.

In terms of the Samsung card, please note we always recommend using Genuine BlackVue cards due to compatibility issues with 3rd party brands. Kingston will definitely cause some issues if used.

Thank you,
