Hello

I am looking into a dash cam, I spent the day researching and found out a lot but I'm defeated, was hoping some one could help me find a cam to fulfill my needs? A little back round, I moderate a forum on Swedespeed, I own a '06 Volvo S60R that I have spent wwwaayyy too much time and money working on for some meathead to ruin it. Below in order is what I need a cam to do for me:

1. A dedicated button on the unit to take a still photo (screenshot) and save it. I want to be able to reach for it quick and take a still photo and have it continue recording after.

2. Higher end video quality with night time qualities. I drive it a lot at dusk/night

3. Motion sensor for when I am away. I think I will end up having to hard-wire for that. Decent audio.

4. Around $200 w/o SD card included

I have narrowed it down to the "Vantrue Ondash R2" which has a dedicated still image button and excellent film quality with a sensitive enough motion sensor but I am worried about its dependability after reading reviews on Amazon. I have seen a review on here and it looks promising but there may be better options out there??

Thanks all,

-Martin

Just curious. Why "dedicated still image button"?. I can get still image screen shot when I'm screening my recording on my PC.

Because I do a lot of car spotting and the like so I would much rather save a jpeg rather than save an event video and take up more space

Welcome to DCT. Consider the SGZC12RC.

Doesn't have a still photo button, but it's easy to use Registrator Viewer or similar to grab a frame from a video clip. Pre-Buffered Motion & G Sensing. Comes with 24/7/365 support from @Pier28

grabbing a screenshot from the video will generally give a superior result than taking a photo for chipsets that actually support that function, no need to reach for a button etc either, just review the video and take what you need
