Maybe there are other reviewers or dashcam shoppers in my similar situation, in that I have a 17 year old that just received his drivers license and I wanted to get a dashcam that had at least 3 cameras: a camera for the front windshield, a camera for the rear window, and a camera for the inside cabin. While there are plenty of dash cams that offer three cameras, I’ve never heard of one that offered a 360 degree panoramic view. So when I came across the Vantrue E360 I was very intrigued to try it out and see what it’s about.
My 17 year old would be driving a 2014 Toyota Corolla, and I’ve mounted another Vantrue dashcam in the car previously and had no issues, so I didn’t hesitate sticking with another Vantrue product for his use. The products have been solid and the software has been reliable and easy to use.
As expected, everything that you would need (including extra sticky pads) are found in the box. What’s interesting with the E360 camera though, is that it includes a handheld mount and a little tripod. Vantrue advertises the E360 as a versatile 360 degree camera that you can use camping, at a party, or meetings. I really never would have thought about using a dashcam in this way, but my son and I love fishing so I can absolutely see him wanting to dismount the camera from the car windshield and take it with us on our fishing trips. Here’s a picture of what you can expect in the box (the 128GB micro SD is not included).
In terms of installation, the E360 installs pretty much the exact same way as other dash cams. There’s nothing new or tricky about it, but the only slight difference than what I’ve used in the past is that the windshield mount is where you plug the USB C power cable into, and the actual camera has a spot for plugging in the rear camera (with my previous model, both power and rear cable were plugged directly into the main camera). There’s plenty of cable to reach the rear camera, so I don’t think anyone will have to worry about that. It was more challenging hiding/tucking the excess cable! But it’s better to have too much rather than too little.
Connecting and using the app was pretty straight forward and we had no issues connecting the camera to Samsung Z Fold 6. Just like the previous Vantrue dashcam, you have to connect to it via Wi-fi.
Testing the E360 was what I was really interested in. I’ve never used a true panoramic camera before so I really wanted to see what this was all about. Again, since this is for our 17 year old, we wanted to have something with as much camera coverage as possible. This would be for his safety, and also to give us, as parents, peace of mind that he wasn’t doing anything he shouldn’t be doing.
I’m including two videos below, one showing the front module that offers the 360 degree view, and the second from the rear camera, which is a regular camera from what I can tell.
I will say that while reviewing videos through the app, it takes a little to get used to because you can swipe left and right to change what you’re looking at in the 360 degree view. And then when you download a video, you get what you saw above, so if you’re not used to seeing 360 degree videos, you kinda have to train your brain on how to view this.
But overall, this has been a great product and really neat to use and view the videos. You’re seeing angles that you never would have seen before with your typical 1-3 channel dash cams. If you ever had an inkling of interest in a full 360 degree camera, you shouldn’t hesitate because seeing the complete view is really cool. Adding the additional feature of easily removing the E360 and taking it with you to use with the handheld mount is pretty awesome and makes this dash cam truly versatile.
