I saw an interesting F1 model on the Vantrue website and really wanted to try it out.
I turned to Jeff with a request to give me one model to test in the car.
“A model designed for a motorcycle must be installed on a motorcycle,” was the answer.
But I convinced Jeff and they sent me one copy.
Vantrue Falcon 1 is a video recorder with two separate video cameras with 4K and Full HD resolution
and a remote control panel designed for installation on a motorcycle. But if desired and with a little modification, it can be installed in the car.
The advantage of installing this model in a car is that the main unit can be installed in a place convenient for you and hidden from heat or cold.
Also, due to their size, cameras are not so noticeable when installed on glass.
If you increase the length of the cables to the front and rear cameras, the cameras can be installed outside the car.

Bitrate and sizes of minute-long videos during normal recording:

Front = N_A = 3840x2160 = 32.4 Mb/s = 232MB
Rear = N_B = 1920x1080 = 10.3 Mb/s = 74MB

Recording from two cameras into one file: 2 in 1
Front + Rear = N_A = 3840x2160 = 32.4 Mb/s = 232MB

Bitrate and sizes of minute-long videos in parking mode:

Front = P_A = 3840x2160 = 32.4 Mb/s = 232MB
Rear = P_B = 1920x1080 = 10.3 Mb/s = 74MB

These tests were performed on a table. Other results in motion...
The bitrate on the main camera on this model is variable.
What I personally saw was a bitrate from 4762 kb/s to 94.2 Mb/s.

A couple of screenshots so you can understand how this model shoots in static conditions.
When it gets warmer, I’ll install it in the car and show it in motion.

1. Screenshot of video from the front camera
2. Screenshot of video from the rear camera
3. Screenshot of a video where 2 in 1 filming is taking place
4. Screenshot of a video with effects applied when viewed in the application

I have installed Vantrue F1 in my car.
Since I don’t have space on the windshield, I had to install the front camera on the panel, slightly to the right of the left pillar.
Therefore, half the frame is taken up by unnecessary details.
There is a plastic ledge under the rear window and the rear camera fits perfectly on it.

This is how the F1 cameras are installed in my car:

Vantrue F1 Dash Cam Firmware Update

  • Release time: 2024-04-03 10:03:54
  • Version: VT-EDC151

Update Log

F1_VT-EDC151 (New)

  1. 1. Increase the file serial number to 5 digits.
    2. Add a new feature for entering parking mode after remaining stationary for 5 minutes.
    3. Introduce a 3-second delayed shutdown function after ACC power-off to address sudden power loss issues in BMW motorcycles.
    4. Set the default software date to January 1, 2024.

2. Add a new feature for entering parking mode after remaining stationary for 5 minutes.
I checked. Works.
My F1 is powered from the cigarette lighter. Red and yellow together for plus and black for minus.
I sat down, started the car and immediately plugged it into the cigarette lighter. F1 plows constantly in motion and on parking lots as long as I ride. Until I get home and turn everything off.
It should go into parking mode based on a signal from the yellow wire. Voltage It has it = writes constantly, no = goes into parking mode. After adding new function, F1 goes into parking mode after 5 minutes of inactivity in the frame, even if there is voltage on the red and yellow wires.

Good to know! Are you able to share how you did the fw update? The OTA button just replies “This is the latest version”?

Welcome.

I flashed F1 using a memory card.

Thanks. Hmm… I actually also tried this - but no success. I just copied the firmware file to the root level - did you also do this?
1. Formatted the memory card in FAT32.
2. Loaded the firmware bin file onto the memory card.
3. Inserted a memory card with firmware into F1.
4. Turned on F1.
5. I waited until the firmware was finished and the F1 rebooted and set the settings I needed.

Hi Karagandinez,

Very interesting post it is what I needed.

I'm planning to install it in my car the F1 due to some special configuration.

Wonder if you could help me with some information:

1) Could you let me know size of front and rear cameras?

2) Do the cameras have cpl filter (polarized filter) to avoid Winshield reflections?

Tks, Roger

Welcome to the forum RogerFx.

Motorcycles do not have reflection problems, so probably not any CPL filters for these.
Now something might be used on these cameras, but to avoid dark corners ASO due to wide angle lens and CPL not being wide enough to support that, in the end it would probably be a pretty ghetto looking result.

Also the camera units are bullet shaped, so the normal press on fit for CPL filters would not work here.

Your best option are probably to get a flat black dash mat to put on top of dashboard, that will fix reflections, the problem is if those are made for your car.
No one make Dash mat for my silly little Suzuki car, so i had to make my own using dark stage / photographer background carpet, but as i am no tailor it is not looking super cool on top pf my dashboard, but it do work even if now years later the black cloth are now a dark grey shade,,,,,, much better than the reflective plastics of my dashboar that otherwise are also dark grey.
