I have used a mobius camera for about six months which produces .mov files which play on my pc and also my Samsung tv without problems. I recently purchased the Git2 mainly because of the gyro and waterproof case because I was going on holiday.

The Git2 produces MP4 files which play on my pc but not on my Samsung tv. After googling I downloaded a program called EaseFab Video converter to convert my Git2 files into a format compatible with the Samsung tv. This was successful but I then noticed that the files produced by EaseFab were approx 10% the size of the original Git2 files. EG original 234,006kb and converted 19,451kb for a 57sec clip. I cannot really notice any difference in video quality.

Now I do not wish to convert all my Git2 files from mp4 to play on the Samsung because a) its too much messing around and b) the free version of EasyFab only works on clips under 3 minutes. Is it possible for the Git2 to record in .mov format and also does anyone know why there is such a difference in file sizes.

Mp4 or Mov is just the container, the files themselves are essentially the same, @Mtz might be able to suggest a program that can convert without re-encoding the files

Use YAMB to convert the videos. This program is just changing the container from MP4 to MOV without affecting the video quality.
But first time try to rename your MP4 to MOV and try to play on your Samsung.

Try to avoid „converters” programs, they are reencoding the videos.

enjoy,
Mtz

Thanks for the suggestions. I renamed my MP4 files to MOV and they worked fine on the pc but not on the Samsung tv. I have installed YAMB but do not understand it. You state that I should avoid 'converter' programs but also state I should use YAMB to convert the videos.

I still do not understand why EasyFab can convert a file to approx 10% of the original size without apparent degregation of video quality.

I assume that there is no option within the firmware to chose between MP4 and MOV format.

I don't think the Samsung TVs can manage the Audio codec used by the Git2, I've managed to convert them to work using VSDC in the past and saved as .mkv files, but I'm not recommending that method. If you strip the audio out then it will probably play OK.

Is your Samsung tv and apps updated?

I expect from a converter to not reencode the video, but many programs are doing the conversion by encoding the video file again which is not necessary if I want only another container.

Usually Samsung gadgets are reading MKV files so conversion from MOV or MP4 can be done to MKV by using MKV Toolnix, a great program continuously updated by a great developer.
