Hello everyone,

I have two VIOFO A229 DUO cams that I purchased back in July 2023 for my wife's vehicle and mine, and so far they have been working very well except for one issue that can sometimes be annoying when it happens.

(I have tried to search for info on this issue in here already and on the internet but didn't see anything, apologies if this has been covered already)

When I get into the vehicle and start it up, after a few seconds the VIOFO logo start-up screen (VIOFO in big white letters on an orange background) will appear on the screen and after about 5-8 seconds it will disappear and you will then see the live video on the screen. I'm assuming this to be normal operation of the cams.

The annoying thing that occasionally happens is that once in a while the cam will get "stuck" on the start-up screen. You just keep seeing the white "VIOFO" on the orange background screen and it won't switch over to live view on the screen.

I have had this "screen-freeze" thing happen for 90 seconds to 3-5 minutes and then suddenly the cam "unfreezes" on it's own and you hear the "recording, 2 channels started" voice and see the live view, and everything's fine again. On occasion it will also sometimes stay "frozen" on the start-up screen for my entire drive (15-20 minutes, sometimes longer) and never "unfreeze" itself by the time i get to where I'm going.

While the cam is in this state of "screen-freeze" no video recording is taking place.

When I notice that it's happening, I sometimes let it go a little longer to see if it will wake up on it's own, but most of the time I just unplug it, wait about 12-15 seconds and plug it back in (it's not hardwired) and once I do that the problem clears. I will only get the start-up screen for 5-8 seconds and then the live video commences as normal.

This only happens occasionally and I haven't noticed that it only happens during certain times or under certain conditions. Now that I think about it, it probably does tend to happen more often during cold start-ups of the vehicle, leaving for work in morning, or leaving work when the vehicle hasn't been started in 8-10 hours since morning commute. It would be much more rare (but not zero) for it to happen during a bunch of errand running around town and it is start-up number 4 in the past 30 minutes for example.

And luckily, at least so far, the problem has cleared 100% of the time if you unplug it for 12-15 seconds and plug it back in.

I asked my wife if hers has been acting up occasionally in the same way and she said yes, just as described above, occasionally, and will clear if you do the unplug-plug thing. (Hers is also not hardwired)

If anyone might have some insight or prior or current experience with this and knows what the cause and fix might be to prevent it from occurring, it would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim.
