Viofo A329T (unboxing & first impressions) (Sony Starvis 2 IMX678, Wi-Fi 6/GPS, HDR, Novatek NT98530, 4K front + 2.5K telephoto + 2.5K rear, HDR all)

I'm not sure that the new model A329 needs a new FCC listing?

As I mentioned previously, that depends. If they have certs for 'modular' then no recert is need as a rule, this of course also depends on other possible board rearrangements; however, retesting is almost always a must. Recertification and Retesting are two different aspects.

The F35 that hit my car with enough noise to trigger any impact sensor a few weeks ago
Yeah the F-35 is indeed a American plane, very loud not least when it have passed, i hope the idiot Danish leaders do not buy more of these not least given the current situation.

Most of the significant changes will be in the firmware, and we never see new FCC documentation for firmware updates. I'm sure changing an HDMI output to a coax input changes the test results, but maybe a positive rather than negative impact. Essentially it will be the same camera with some minor changes, from a certification pint of view. Presumably they are not going to change the wifi transceiver or antenna, which is really what the Federal Communications Commission is interested in.

Appears we are getting closer to the launch of the A329S, exciting times 🙂

Seems from the box packaging that it is a triple Starvis 2 setup, which to me would indicate that the interior cabin camera would be an IMX664, as it's QHD.

Will be interesting to see if it's an upgrade to the previous IMX307 that was in the A229 Pro generation, at the very least it will be double the resolution which is a welcome addition.

Oh i dont like and use interior

My one, and only concern is...heat. My two A229 Pro have become sensitive to heat since I purchased them in September of 2023. Image quality is still great, telephoto image is still great, interior image is still great but, anything more that one channel use coupled with heat and the dash cam puts enough noise out that it kills the one AM band I listen too. Weird as hell, and only happens on 2 channels or more and when hot. If VIOFO has the heat issue under control, I may go for the A329S.

At least one person mentioned the interior uses a wider angle lens, would be interesting to see how it works as a side-view camera

Agreed. Viofo has some SERIOUS heat management issues; a major design flaw. I replaced them with A329 which, so far, are handling the heat much better.

Nice to see what the telephoto camera will be like for the A329S, the RTC400. Appears that there may be options for 15cm and 30cm cable lengths, in addition to 1 metre.

CPL filter also makes a return, and the sensor remains unchanged from the Starvis 2 IMX675 - no surprises there.

rtc 400 sell now in china
The CPL is not the same as the CPL-500 for the RTC-300. I used a 3M black tape to fit some pre-release VS1 CPL because, now, in my opinion the telephoto camera needs a CPL.

For me that 15cm cable was the best possible option. Look above how close are my dashcams. Bot of them are mounted on the black dotted area. The telephoto camera could be even more on the right but the SSD cable forced me to mount it a little more on the left. An 30cm or 100cm cable would destroy my nice setup which already have more cables in that area because of the stuff I have around the rearview mirror.

And because I wrote about the mounting of a secondary camera, my advice when mounting a front camera (telephoto in my example) and a rear camera, in the smartphone view to use some horizonal line to align both cameras at the same level because in this way when you have the videos side by side, the horizon level will be at the same level. I was using sea level. You will understand later why is this needed in a 3CH setup and is is only about a nice viewing result, because it is nice to watch many cameras at the same time, aligned at the same level.
But when I am using a 2CH setup I am pointing the rear camera more down than the front camera. In this way the rear camera image will become more bright compared if I used the same level as the front camera and the result is that I cancel in some way the tinted window darkness. Also I am sure I will record the rear car coming too close to my car.

Looks like it's not too long now, a week and a half or so until embargo is lifted and the many mysteries of the A329S are lifted (May 5).....

I don't expect the A329S/T sales to start on May 5, but later.

I don't know anything about embargo, but I consider that will not be anything shocking in the new A329S.
On A329 I accept that it was something fantastic, the SSD support but don't expect to see something fantastic like that on A329S.
As hardware, the main features of A329S are already presented, like: 3 channels, coaxial cables on all cameras, new RTC-400 style secondary cameras which is almost the same as RTC-300 but with the cooling improved, a great new wide lens for interior, many sales options like S, T, SW versions.
I would like to see detachable mounts for the secondary cameras like are on WM1 or VS1. I asked about this before the release of the A229 Pro secondary cameras.
Regarding firmware for sure there will be new functions, some of them as ideas created by Viofo with the help, or not, from people outside Viofo. Viofo can no do anything they want, there must be some collaboration and limits with Novatek, but I have the feeling that it is a good collaboration between they and Novatek.
So I consider the unknown expectations to be from the firmware, new functions and accessories and not only from the camera itself. But again, nothing shocking like it was for me the SSD support which was a big surprise from Viofo.
