VIOFO T130 Saves The Day

The autonomous lane holding didn't work very well!
Clearly the rental companies fault...

Quite good quality cabin image, and audio, slight lack of colour though.

Fortunately, in this example, no one was injured and the only damages were limited
the the rental car and a mailbox.

Given the closing speeds between the driver and oncoming traffic, this could have been
much, much worse.

Hi guys,
This is the type of video that should be shown in every learner's driving instruction class.

The police down here take great enjoyment in pinging anyone using their mobile phone whilst driving.
Cost, I think is around $350.00 AUD with a few points added to your license.

Motor bike police have an advantage, in that they are slightly higher & can see into most normal vehicles.
Your average delivery truck drivers are big offenders as are company ute drivers.

Totally illegal down here in Oz.

It's illegal here too in more than one state, including mine and the one just south of me.
But it should be common sense and that is largely what is in short supply.

It is not just texting, it is any distraction. People smoke, eat, read, I saw a young woman
applying mascara while driving in rush-hour traffic and staring into her rear view mirror.
I've seen folks driving while reading a folded newspaper resting on the steering wheel.
People are in a hurry, and very busy, and so incredibly more important than anyone else
around them, self-important.

The ability to "multi-task" does not apply to behavior that requires 100% focus to the task
at hand.

I wish someone warned me about the scream, had my headphones on 🤣

It is illegal to use a cellphone while driving in Virginia. Here are a few things I have seen while driving northbound on I-95, going into the combat zone known as Northern Virginia.

  • Man doing crossword puzzle on his steering wheel.
  • Man reading newspaper on his steering wheel.
  • Women putting on makeup.
  • Woman eating a bowl of cereal and smoking a cigarette at the same time.
  • Men and women using cell phones.
  • Men tying their neckties.
All of this at 70 mph...or more. The local joke is that the speed limit is the same as the interstate number. That would make it 95 mph, and people do their best to prove that true. 🙂

lack of colour
common sense

Why is no one talking about why this video is in Black & White instead of full color HDR? (except for Nigel)
That’s what I find the most offensive. lol
Forget the selfish “See You Next Tuesday” earning a DNF by parking it in a ditch due to inattention.
This is the new norm for Millennial & Gen Z smartphone addicts, (I’m Gen X so I will pick on them).
Actually, I shouldn’t say that because there are plenty of Gen X videos mistaking the accelerator for the brake pedal, and taking out entire store fronts, and pedestrians like bowling pins.

The A229 Pro IR Interior camera was the first Viofo interior cam to have a light sensor.
This brought much needed accuracy to the operation of IR LED emitters & IR Filter so we only had to lament B&W footage when low light levels required it, and we could instead enjoy full color HDR all other times.
But this advancement in accuracy came at the cost of losing night time IR FOV because they went from 6 IR LED Emitters down to only 4 to make room for the light sensor.
Unfortunate for the A329S IR Interior Fisheye they removed the light sensor to make room for the fisheye lens, and we still only got 4 IR LED emitters, so we are back down to the narrow night time IR FOV.

As @kamkar would say;
“When I become Emperor I shall mandate all interior cams have BOTH a full set of 6 IR LED emitters, and a light sensor.”
I don’t think the fisheye lens is necessary anymore because the Vueroid S1-4K IR Interior camera FOV is almost just as wide without excessive barrel distortion, (and it can still look out both side windows).

That’s the reason I posted this video.
I wanted to make a rant about the “missing” light sensor in the A329S IR Interior Fisheye. lol

See attached photos for clarification, and the attached videos to see accuracy of transitions from B&W to full color HDR, and back to B&W.

Only the best for my subjects.

Because the video content is the important thing, and it really doesn't matter that it's in black and white.

Good point. I grew up with black and white film cameras, so maybe I am a little more forgiving. 🙂.

Well yes, of course you are correct.
I was being facetious.
The consequence of her selfishness would have been more schadenfreude in full color HDR. lol

It may actually have better image quality in monochrome, there is less noise, partly because the noise can be averaged across the four colour pixels that a colour image sensor has making up each monochrome pixel when used as a monochrome sensor, and partly because you can more or less ignore the red, which tends to be most noisy.

Can you just stop Nigel? lol
It's a friggen' beautiful sunny day with somewhat evenly distributed sunlight.
There's no reason this shouldn't be full color.
Everyone talks about these things are evidence recorders.
Well having details in color can be the difference between having evidence, and not.

Actually I just realized something.
The caption on the video says this is a Turo Rental Car.
Google says Turo is the "Airbnb of cars" (that in itself sounds like a nightmare). lol
Maybe for some reason the owner of the rental car set the IR LED's to "On" (instead of Auto).
