GoPro suction mounts are excellent, strong enough to stay attached on the outside of an airplane flying.

This is where saying something "really sucks" is a compliment but it does show how much these mounts vary. I've got one suction mounted cam at the side door of my van which stays put for about a year until something knocks it off while another mounted similarly that never got bumped needed to be reset every couple weeks.

I think @comadose would be OK with most suction mounts used for short-term like with rental cars; even the worst one's I've encountered stay put at least a few days until wear sets in. And wear happens gradually so you'd know when dismounting that it's losing holding power giving you time to get another. The big problem with these is having clean glass underneath and no suction mount can compensate for that
