when doing a hardwire install what fuse is generally used for a permanent live connection ie would you tap into the fuse for the ecu or does it not really matter aslong as its live.

It is forbidden to use fuses that protect the circuits of engine control systems, as well as systems that affect traffic safety - steering, brakes, etc.
PS: There are many other connection circuits - different lamps, cigarette lighter socket, trailer wires and others.
And before connecting, it's better if you make sure the fuse is energized with a multimeter.
It is good for such a case to have a friend - an electrician
