I read that the A229 uses a Quad-Mode GPS module supporting 4 satellite positioning systems (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou).
I'm curious to know what module the Mini 2 is using. Can't find any details on that.

It probably use the same, all of them

TBH i wish there was a way you could choose which ones to use, as a EURO i would of course just use Galileo and forget about those other inferior systems.

It might be useful to be able to turn GPS off at the moment since it has been jammed and so can be inaccurate in eastern and northern Europe.

Presumably that is to keep costs down, since the Mini 2 is significantly cheaper than the A229. It is only the A229 Plus & Pro that have the quad receiver, not the A229 Duo.

I wonder if anyone notices the difference?
Galileo is supposed to be accurate to 1 meter instead of 3 meters for GPS.
 
I experience worse positioning performance with the Mini 2 GPS mount than the A119 V3. Also, the Mini 2 loses GPS lock more often on the way.
The Mini 2 takes about 50 seconds to acquire position after exit from my garage, whereas the A119 V3 managed it in less than 30 seconds usually, or even inside the garage.

I used the A119 V3 in my previous car and without any Bluetooth activity in the car. In my current car, several Bluetooth connections are active. Maybe this causes an unfavorable GPS reception environment? I don't know.
Another cause may be that the A119 V3 uses GPS + BeiDou and the Mini 2 is GPS only.

I don't think the V3 uses BeiDou satellite navigation, the V3 was launched before the first BaiDou satellite was launched! I haven't heard of an upgraded GPS module for it.

I don't think Bluetooth should affect it, GPS uses very different frequencies, more likely that you have placed the camera near some other equipment, such as autonomous braking system sensors. I don't think I've ever seen a decent comparison between the two GPS recievers, it is possible that the Mini 2 has more internal interference and is actually inferior, need more tests...
 
The camera mount is at the usual central spot next to the rear-view mirror. There are no sensors in or near the windshield.

I'll test whether there is any difference when I leave anything bluetooth off.

[edit] Better still, as a test, I'll switch the camera on with a powerbank outside the car , in front of the garage.

That is a good test, it removes the possibility of windscreen heaters or metalised windscreen film blocking the signal.
 
I was already on my way to the garage when I realized that the GPS unit is stuck to the windshield and can't be switched on outside the car...

Next weekend I'll do a test with all Bluetooth devices off and also the car stereo off.
 
I've done a test with all Bluetooth devices off and the car stereo off.
51 sec. after I left the garage, a GPS fix was acquired. So, all RF sources off makes no difference for GPS performance.

I find 51 seconds still satisfactory, but as said, the A119 V3 GPS unit is faster.
